Idling issues?

Hello I am kind of new here and I got my first car, a 5speed 1993 mx-3. When I got the car I was told the TB was bad. So I went to the local "Pick N pull" and got one off of a automatic mx3(Not sure if this info helps). I put the TB on and adjusted the TPS, slowly tilting it till it seamed to idle correctly.
So now my problem, when I start the car it tries to idle at about 2,300RPMs. After that it slowly drops till the car starts to shake and shuts off. If I give it gas to keep the RPMs around 3-4k, after about a minute or two it will idle on its own. But it idles around 2,900RPMs.

Anyone know what steps i should take to fixing this problem? Also when idling all i can smell coming from the car is gas. If you could keep it simple I would appreciate it a lot! I am not very good with cars yet but I hope this one will help get me into it.

Right at the top of this board there's a sticky showing you how to clean and adjust your TB. I suggest you start by doing that. Once you're sure everything in your TB, TPS and IAC is right, report back, and we'll take it from there.
Are you getting a CEL?

Like I said , I am new to cars so IAC,CEL? I knew to call the throttle body a "TB" as for the "TPS" becouse I already went through that post . I didn't want to go ahead and do all that and come to find out there was something simple I could of done.

Far as actual motor work, I was told to go KLDE rather then the KLZE. From what I was told the DE has stronger internals to better support a turbo setup.

IAC= Idle Air Control. The big valve at the bottom of the TB.
CEL= Check Engine Light.

Don't worry much about being new. Take your time, read, and ask questions.

For a 4 cylinder car, your best option for a swap would be a BP. Swapping a KL into a 4 Cylinder is a little more involved.

Anyways, like I said, start reading. Go through the worklogs. There's a lot of information there...

Ah , yes the CEL is on, it has been on sense I had the car. When I was adjusting the TPS it would go out but it would shortly come back on. Hopefully I can get my hands on a camera to take pictures of my progress.

Ok, you need to pull your codes.
In the engine compartment there's a little black box with the word "Diagnostics" on the cover. Inside, you will see a series of contacts. With the car off, take a piece of wire and jump the contact marked "TEn" and Ground. Then, turn the key to the "ON" position (don't start the car). The check engine light will start to flash. Count those flashes. If there's more than one code, the light will flash a number of times, then stop for a second, start flashing again, and so on. Count all the codes and post them here, so we can know what's going on.

Sorry it took so long for tomorrow to get here. It has been to cold to work outside.
But! I have taken it all off , cleaned it , put it back on. She started up fine and did
everything I wanted it to.

She is running fine and sounds fine. Only problem I still have is the CEL stays on.
Also the car seams to idle at about 1.9k rpms which seams to be fine to me but can
this cause a problem in the long run?

You need to pull the codes like I explained above, so we know what we're dealing with.

No, idling high will not hurt your engine, other than increasing its normal wear, but it will hurt your fuel economy.
