So here's my question for the geeks out there. What are your thoughts on Windows 7? I have heard good things but I have no experience with it.

Win 7 is coming to be the best Win release yet. It's basic GUI and handling makes it quick and easy, yet it's stronger and a better form than any of the prior releases.

Win 7 all the way been rockin it since early beta.

BTW did you have to sell your first born for that laptop? LOL Alienware is not cheap. Still looks quite nice, and the specs are sweet.

I had to take a second and third mortgage on my eternal soul, but I wasn't using it anyway.

It has facial recognition software. The webcam is in the process of learning my face so that I don't have to type in a password.

Alienwares are very nice machines, very high end. Gamers love them...

Wyt: as everybody said before me, Windows 7 is the best Windows version yet. I consider it to be the most stable version since 3.11 (and obviously it's way more advanced).
It runs great, very seldom crashes, very easy to use, and doesn't seem to have any of the issues of Vista and XP. And on a machine with those specs, I can bet my life it's gonna run very, very fast.

But remember, as good as it is, it's still Windows, and carries the burden of having most viruses in the market targeted specifically for it, so keep it protected. Other than that, enjoy!

I wonder how would Ubuntu run in that thing...

So far it's awesome. The only trouble I'm having as of yet is expanding the desktop to my 24" monitor. I think the driver just doesn't know how to talk to Windows 7. A few little things about 7 that take some getting used to, but on the whole I don't hate it so far.

I bought this unit because I do a lot of 3D modeling and I'm learning Flash and my old computer just couldn't do it. I figure if you're going to get a wizzy new computer you might as well get a really wizzy new computer. This thing weighs like 15lbs!

More software to install tonight. Man it takes a while to get a new computer set up just right.

This one sure didn't. I chose not to go to the top level i7 920QM processor and it was still over $3k. But I needed something with superior graphic capabilities and figured why go half way?

Only problem so far is some of my 32 bit software doesn't work.

I wanted to reduce my computing footprint. I also may like to take it places from time to time...although not often. The thing weighs like 40lbs.

I've actually upgraded all my boxes (aside form the carPC) to 7.

Nice laptop.. but IMO they are a little overpriced. Ever since Dell bought Alienware the prices have come down some though.

It is a little pricey and there were options from other manufacturer's which had similar specs but based on reviews by owners and market experts I decided to go with the Alienware as it appears to have the best overall quality. Plus Dell has a leasing system that allows me to own it without buying it so I can write off the lease payments through my business.

very nice laptop. i hope you bought the "3 year extended warranty" or atleast still have the option to buy it? for desktops its not that important but its worth it for laptops. plus at the end of the 3 years you can run it over with your mx3 and get a new one with upgraded tech for free  . i had an old 17" dell notebook with the warranty. i dropped it and put a big hole in the corner of it, spilled juice on the screen and killed the hard drive and they replaced it no questions asked.
