Adaptor To Plug An OBD2 Harness Into An OBD1 ECU

Post by ChrisNW »

I'm looking for a decent diagram to help me make an adaptor to plug an OBD1 ECU into an OBD2 harness.

I've seen that this would be very popular, as it enables everyone with a 1.8 to get a chipped ECU, but can't find a diagram anywhere. All the links I try here are 404'd, all the members claiming to have said diagram in their possession are no longer active etc etc. I apologise in advance if I'm asking people to repeat themselves, if that's the case just point me in the right direction and I'll stfu.

Ah c'mon, help me out!

Yeah, my bad, my FTP got wiped because my friend and I suck at coordinating server cleanups. Anyways, the pinout will be rescanned by the end of the week.

Just curious. Have you driven a OBD2 KLZE with a KL02 VAf installed? Mine runs great, fuel's good with no rich smell. You can diagnois your system easier with an OBD2 reader as well. The only area to adjust is your upper VRIS point so use MDS window switchs for that. I would suggest swappng out the harnesses as trying to adapt your harness to accept a OBD1 ECU will be much more time consuming and no one makes an adapter harness.

In the UK we've seen a few MX3's like mine, OBD2 ECU, but no OBD2 port to connect to, making you read the diagnostics the old fashioned way. I'd make the data connections straight to the ECU and retrofit the damn thing if I could. On my four port ECU, only three ports are occupied.

Tried the KL-02 VAF, no success, but it's possibly a faulty unit. I want to test the resistance if possible, does someone have the measurement range?

Yup, we're going for the full harness swap ATM.

Excellent. Thanks so much for your help.

I see that the empty port on the ECU is for Automatic Trans Models. Shame. Was hoping that I could get down the scrapyard, remove the OBD2 port + cable, then plug it into the empty port on mine, get some detailed data fairly easily. I'd have to fabricate something like a piggyback just to get it connected to a laptop I think.

I have a 96 OBD2 ECU if you want to buy one. I also have the plugs that go into the ECU if anyone needs them to make an adapter with.
