CLUTCH OR ??????????? HELP

Post by pk4rney »

hey everyone im having probs with my clutch it seems, well what is happening is firstly the bite is realy high, im slightly over reving whilst pulling away, the car sometimes hesitates whe accelerating like it goes fast then slows little.the car sounds like its doing 130mph when doing 70mph its like there is high revs but rev counter is low not high, struggles to go above 85mph and i can do 25mph in second and go straight into 5th without stalling it grips instead. so what you's think also the car once warm and restarted goes low on idle then goes normal. please help thank you

check your slave cylinder, if its worn out it wont hold the clutch and youll have slippage and trouble getting it onto gear when it really gets bad

Honestly I'm having trouble making out what you're trying to say. I just don't understand what your symptoms are.

sorry guys about that. im pretty sure it is slipping or maybe it is plate?. how can i tell if it is clutch plate?. the symptoms are that it can be hard to go into gear. the car sounds like it is reving high but at 65mph. there is hardly any power. also the clutch is very high and has a faint bite. also when pulling away there is hesitation sometimes to accelerate and revs high then bites. please help. also if its plate can i cahnge just that or does it have to be full clutch

step one: remove your battery, battery tray, and air box and air box tubing
Step two: Follow the black hose connected to the drivers side of your brake master cylinder down the firewall to the clutch master clyinder ( it looks like a smaller brake master cylinder)
Step three: follow the brake line that leads from that to the front of your tranny where it mounts to a strange plunger looking device, this is your slave cylinder.
Step Four: look for any leakage along the line as well as wet spots, if none check the slave clyinder for tears, also have someone depress the clutch to make sure it is moving properly.

If theres damage to the slave, change it and bleed the system out, if its not moving and its intact change your clutch master, if none of the above its probably your pressure plate and Ild recomend a shop if you dont have the know-how.

Good luck! 8)

would a leak cause the problems i said? i thought it would just cause light or stiff clutch. so check slave and if its not that then change master and if that dont help then change full clutch.

If it was the slave cylinder it would most likely be leaking, so I tend to think it's more likely to be the master cylinder. Not as easy a fix as the slave, but better than the clutch.

As was suggested have someone depress the clutch and watch the slave cylinder. If it doesn't extend all the way, or extends but then slowly retracts with the pedal still down, it's definitely the master cylinder. If it appears to be working properly and the slave extends and holds firm, I'd say your clutch is toast.

For that the tranny has to come out and yes, it is definitely best to replace the clutch disk and pressure plate as well as having the flywheel resurfaced. Not doing so or only replacing part of the clutch will result in repeating the process again much sooner than you should have to.

Master & Slave : Floor under pedals would be wet with brake fluid. You would have drips under your car and OR no pressure on the clutch pedal. Also on the front of the engine on the lower right hand side you should see a 5mm piece of tubing that goes from right next to the brake booster ( The MASTER ) all the way to the front of the engine right next to the engine mount and connects into the ( SLAVE ). Can't be much easier to explain :/

I had a similar sympton my my 99 eclipse but it turned out to be a frozen up pressure plate & clutch. Basically they fused together from improper installation and overheating. ( THANKS AMMCO )

Heres a picture of both from left to right : MASTER (Next to brake fluid container/booster) -> SLAVE (Front of transmission next to motor mount.)

i have pressure in clutch and fluid is full, thats not problem, it bites realy high, sounds like im going 145mph when only doing 65mph, and it high revs when taking foot of clutch but not badly, its hard to get into gear sometimes, also i can do 20mph and go straight from 2nd gear into 5th with no stalling etc, also i put e brake on and put into 2nd gear and the car never stalled until i took foot fully off clutch
