have been hard at work finishing wiring, finding more rotten and broken parts, and doing lots of little projects. Been very sidetracked with other projects like my suzuki sidekick, my retro bicycle bar cruiser, and tons of work on my roomates austin mini. I just have to add a few grounds and figure out exactly how to disable the coil on a 96 disty so the hei/blaster coil will work and it should fire up. I dont plan on starting it right away since i cant roll it outside ad i dont want to burn my house down. Right now there is virtually nothing under the car suspensionwise. Apparently my lateral link rotted away and cracked, all the lines are corroded bigtime and theres lotsa rusty bolts to get off. Heres just some random pics of the car ive taken over the past few weeks(rot-damage, hatch seam painted, engine, battery shut-off, etc) enjoy:

OH.Man. I'm sorry to say; That's the worst rust I've seen on an MX-3.

the sad part is that it was virtually rust free until it sat in a farm field for 3 months. The arms are replaced with 97 protoge tubular ones. Everything else is in the process of a revamp. Just waiting for money for parts and doing lotsa blasting and painting these days. PICS SOON...

I didn't know about the '97 Protege arms. I'm looking forward to seeing them.

theyre from a 97 escort with rear disc, i accidentally typed protoge since thats where i got my struts from. they are shaped a bit different but they line up at the same place and they have a kick in for wider wheels and are tubular instead of stamped. Also gonna use escort aftermarket toe-links in the rear cause they are beefier and have poly bushings. my front swaybar links are rears from a honda crv. bigger and cheaper. The whole suspension is frankensteined cause thats how i roll. They dont call me the mad sceintist for nothin' I will document all of it so others can learn...

That's quite a bit of rust there. I bet it will feel so good once you blast those things and get them coated nicely (or replace em)!

Looking good. Love the polished IM

93SOHC wrote:thanks man. This is what I have been doing. No fluid will come out though. It never get past the clutch master. The pedal never gets hard. I think I have to prime the clutch master or something. I hav tried gravity bleeding, and even forcing fluid up and down stream with a giant sirynge. any ideas?
Any luck on bleeding the line? I'm having the same issue.

wow...been exactly 6 months since my last post. Bet u all thought i dissapeared, lol. Im still here and im still wrenchin every chance i get. Got very sidetracked with other projects and basically ran out of money to throw into the car. I actually contemplated swlling it but i have hundreds of hours into this thing and it just aint worth it...plus i love this car. Its jusgt been a real nightmare with all the rust damage from sitting in a field for 2 months. it was nearly rust free when i bought it and its amazing what moisture can do! I have finally worked out all the rear suspension issues and i will be doing a write up on all 4 corners around the holidays. I have abt 40 pics to post of my progress but unfortunately my laptop crashed bigtime 3 months ago and it will only work in safe mode which means no uploading pics til i get a new one or someone fixes this POS. Anywho, this is the progress ive made, its not much since ive been strapped for money and time the last half year:

-Rear suspension and subframe dropped
-every bit and piece that wasnt replaced has been blasted, grinded, etched, primed, and painted
-Few odds and ends to paint for the suspension left
-rear coilovers built painted and assembled
-every brake and fuel line ripped out(still workin on gettin the $ to replace them)
-fuel tank dropped and rhinolined( One strap was fairly new, other one was trashed and im fabbing a new one using the oem ends and straight stock)
-pulled filler neck and seperator for refurbishing
-seperator is garbage! pure rust with a huge hole! I will fab a new one from a generic oil catch tank with 3 pipe nipples welded in i think.
-one rim is refurbished, but i don't like the color :( its header red flat ceramic, but looks wayyyy orange. I may bring back White Wheels like its 2003, lol not sure yet
-think i have the clutch master issue figured out, havent tried it yet though i have the parts
-still haven't figured out what i have to cut for using an external coil. Is wired, but dont know what else i have to mod on the disty???
-Rear Hatch removed, jambs painted with Rustoleum, new weatherstrip installed, hatch reinstalled
-led brakelight fabbed and wired but not installed. I cant make a spoiled decision still after 2 and a half years, lol
-battery relocation and external cut-off switch fabbed, installed, DONE! Love it!
-Tinted tail lights with nightshades and it sucks a-- bigtime! Ordering tinted altezza for sure
- wiring is ran for factory foglights if i can ever find a foglight bumper...
-new bushings in rear arms fabbed and installed(will be in the write up)
-rear frame rot welded and rustoleumed(luckilly it wasnt a through hole!)
-all carpet reinstalled, wiring ran for sub/amp and other accessories
-interior de-modified(yes my sunroof was apparently leaking. one of the hoses for the drain came off and soaked the whole floor!)
-rear calipers rebuilt, not yet painted

THats all i can think of atm. I also restored 3 bicycles and two mopeds. Helped my roomate re-restore his Lambretta scooter and intstalled the subframe, interior, engine/trans, and front suspension in his Mini. Also refurbished my whole garage with rebuilt benches, wiring, and a few new goodies like a big bench vise, paint booth(for small parts), and a bench grinder. I hope to be able to post a ton of pics very soon. Glad to see theres still people keepin the dream alive and if anyone can help me with the hei/ external coil deal that'd be great!

-Jay
