[WTB] v6 mx3 steering gear 2?

My brother took the car into the shop and they said I needed a new one? I don't even know where it's located but I was wondering if someone might have one and for what price? Please let me know. Thanks.

Apparently thats the whole rack, for the most part. That will be expensive for a shop to do.

What is your car doing that you need that part? I'm skeptical of your shop's diagnosis.

The car seems to pull right and left when going down the road if I hit a bump. If i'm just driving and no bumps, it pulls more to the right so I have no idea. I didn't think that it would be something this difficult to fix. They said it might cost like 2000 or so to do. Very spendy for me, but the body is pretty clean so that's why I was just seeing if someone had that part and how hard it would be to fix it?

It would take one of us with quite a bit experience about 4 or 5 hours, I reckon.

$2k for a steering rack job seems a bit high to me you might want to see what other prices you can get and make sure what parts they plan on using, for that price it better all be oem mazda and no aftermarket substitutes. I dont even think the dealer would charge you that much but thats just me... an experienced tech should have no problem at all with doing that job in about 2.5 maybe 3 hrs

Just but a manual steering rack and be done with it, they are only around 100 dllrs plus ship(ebay) the whole job may cost you around 200 - 300 dllrs for parts. Spending 2 thousand on an old used car is useless, just buy another car.

I dont think the steering rack is the problem, I blame bushings and somethig to do woth control arls or struts and tires.

Well, I don't think that I want to pay a 1000 because I could just buy another for a bit more. But I can't seem to find one on ebay right now. If there's one out there that someone can find, let me know please. Thanks.

I had meant for them to install it.

The part really shouldn't be more than $200.

A member would likely happily install it for the fraction of the shop's price.

Get a second opinion...and maybe a third. IF the wheels move left and right when you hit a bump, and the steering rack was to blame, it would not happen only when going over a bump. It would happen all the time.

It's clear that you're not experienced mechanically and it's probably equally obvious to the mechanic you talked to. Go somewhere else and take someone with you that knows a thing or two about cars. My guess is that he identified the problem immediately as something simple to fix and then made up the steering thing because there's no way that you would be able to confirm that he did anything to the steering rack. So he'll fix your obvious problem for a few bucks, and clean up your steering rack with a rag and some solvent and tell you he changed it and charge you $2k.

Yeah, I'll just have look into it more. My younger brother took it into the shop but he thinks that it could also be that part. It'll have to be a project for the summer since that piece isn't too spendy, i'd hate to see another clean 3 scrapped. Thanks for the replies.
