I currently have a 93 mx6..i know i know, this is mx3.com but whatever. I am looking into doing an engine rebuild. PAECO has some good prices on redoing my cams... INTAKE: 34/66 EXHAUST: 70/30 DURATION: 280 LIFT: .302"...and im looking at
this for the engine.
Bore Includes:84.5mm
Complete Gasket Set
Hussey Copper Gasket
ROSS/Wiseco Forged Pistons
(86, 85, 85.5mm bore) and
(9.1-1, 10.1-1 comp ratio)

I would recommend doing the DE with a KLG4 IM, with port & polishing, deshrouding, and reconditioned or new HLAs. That's what my build basically is, and it's the strogest KL around, including ZEs. If you don't want to do the machining, I'd recommend the ZE, and a chipped ECU, or EMS.

dont mind taking it to a machine shop at all haha...but isnt the G4 an OBD2? im 93, so OBD1... and you think the g4 mani is better perfomance wise than the Ze IM?

It doesn't matter that the G4 is newer. The sensors all hook up, and the VRIS points are closer to the stock ones than ZE ones.

If you're rebuilding, Higher compression is the #1 way to gain HP, and cams is #2. The DE heads actually flow pretty well, but I'd deshroud, port/ polish... do everything you can while it's apart, even if it uses up your budget, because you can do the other stuff more easily. You can build a DE to be stronger than you can a ZE, because the DE has more material to remove...
It all depends on your goals, time, and budget. If I had an unlimited budget, I'd build a DE, just because you can make the flow better.

Honestly goals are to have a strong/reliable dd...that will haul. I can afford a few days of not driving it but im not gunna go w a turbo cuz u never know when that will poop out on you. I dont have a buncha money saved up, I get my paycheck and i buy things. So i guess my budget would be like 500 a month or so. heres what im planning right now. Borla Cat-back with a magnaflow high-flow cat, and a resonator. The KLG4 IM, cept i have not seen a build thread on that and have no idea the time/pain of doing that so if you wanted to let me know how many hours that took? After i get that ill prolly bore out my DE TB, unless i should get anotther one with the G4, not sure on that. ANd then move on to save up and get about 1500 Set aside, so i can get milli s rods and pistons, 11:1 comp, and find a good machine shop to help out with that. THoughts?

It's plenty helpful. Use your head. If all you want to do is "haul a--" then I don't see how that expensive rebuild kit is gonna help you. Get a ze with bolt ons or run nitrous or something.illinin09 wrote:"something else" meaning...? haha not very helpful

Strong and reliable and fast aren't usually in the same sentance. Building a de or ze to 11:1 comp is sketchy. Sure your motor will be freshly rebuilt, but can you find a shop that knows how to work on kseries v6's? Are you comfortable with the fact that if your timing belt fails that your motor takes a crap with the belt because you lose the "non interference" aspect of the motor due to the piston design?illinin09 wrote:if you read the post, i wanted a strong/reliable daily driver. Nitrous and kl's go very well together. There are guys on PT that are running nitrous for YEARS with no issues at all, while all the turbo and built motor guys are either blowing up their motors or parting out their builds because they became too expensive (in many cases worth more then the car they are driving).
I'm not trying to s--- on your plans but you have to be realistic and be careful on how you spend your cash because it can be gone so fast on these motors/cars you will be left broke wondering wtf happened and having to end up parting your loses...

xtremethingsdotcom has all the info about the G4 IM (and other good DE build info), and I did see a little gain with a 65mm TB. Port/ polishing, etc. time varies depending on how good you are at it, how far you go (the closer you get to doing too much, the more careful and meticulous you need to be), and how good a final job you want. A quick P&P/ deshroud job will take a full day, if you've done it before, and are good at it/ know your tolerences.
I would also stay at 10:1 compression, and get Colt 210 cams, for max performance, while still being streetable. My car is just at the edge of streetability. It doesn't go smoothly from stopped, It wants to jerk, so rush traffic sucks.

If i go ahead with some ZE Pistons and Colt 210 Cams with a full exhasut and a G4 IM, why does that seem so ridiculous price wise?
