bp swap questions
ok so this year i blew the motor in my gs. swaped it to a ze.
and gave my brother my rs.
now im thinking bout giving him my ze.
and taking back the 4cyl.
i found a bp in a junk yard here for $300
its not a bpt.
but i know the harness will hook right up.
but i was told that the ecu will not work.
and if im gonna buy a ecu. im gonna buy somthing i can play with.
and if i buy the motor i am gonna build it and turbo it around 10 ro 15psi hopefully.
i want some recomendations on a ecu.
now i hear alot about megasquirt.
but what else is out there that would be great for the bp. and eventually a bpt.
another question i have is where could i get a manifold from a bpt for the bp?
and if ur gonna say search. dont bother. the reason i didnt use it is cuz im lazy.
and i want recomendations.
i want to push around 300whp total

I recommend... ah never mind. I'm lazy too.
You need to read about ecu's, wiring and the like. Who cares about your RS harness if you are thinking about going stand alone.
search.

Re: bp swap questions
well for a while now i was thinking about going stand alone on my ze.
and going turbo.
but from what i am seeing. i would get more bang for my buck with the bp.
well see thats what i was thinking too on the wireing harness. because the stock plugs usually wont plug into it.
but on a n/a setup even with a afpr and megasquirt you arent really gaining any preformance.
you are just making the car tuneable.
i just want a user friendly ecu thats gonna last.
so yea. i wanna know like good brands to look into.
what most people with the bp like to run.

Re: bp swap questions
Check out your local tuners and see what they can tune before
buying something. Nothing would suck worse than buying a standalone
and have tuners not want to touch it.
Start there, stock harness can utilize RX-7 460cc injectors which are
more than sufficient to make enough torque to snap a G series transaxle.
ETD racing makes nice headers http://www.etdracing.com/store/index.php?cPath=13
They also used to have nice fuel rails.

Re: bp swap questions
haha thats a pretty good idea.
i dunno if theres anyone with a dyno in boise idaho.
but i will find out.
i know boise state universitys automotive has a engine dyno.
but i want someone that can give me results at the wheels. not just the flywheel.
and thanks for the link.
well besides ebay. what are some good companys for like pistons, rods, cams, valves, springs, lifters, drive axles, and such.
and at 300whp would the stock tranny handle that?
i dont know the specs on it.

Re: bp swap questions
ok so for the last hour i have been debating on buying the bp or the bpt if i do this project.
just like comparing prices and what i am getting.
and i decided to just buy a n/a bp cuz i can get one with 60,000miles for $350us from a local junk yard. with a guarntee.
and build it for the turbo.
so my total parts list so far is
from junk yard
bp motor - $350
corksport list
rods - $540
timing belt - $70
aluminum crank pulley - $120
cam gears - $160
oil pump - $187
cams - $437
radiator cap - $30
studs - $130
spark plug wires - $111
alternator belt - $40
intake manifold - $224
belt - $40
clutch - $430
down pipe - $250
ebay list
forged Pistons - $560
total cost so far
$3679
still need
ecu
rod baring
piston rings
drive axles
wiring harness (for purchased ecu)
now is there anything im forgetting for the motor and drivetrain build (excluding turbo, intercooler, piping, turbo manifold, wastegate, bov, and gauges and such)

Not for long weak point is the differential if abuse regularly, its a f-series trans u currently have given that ur mx-3 is a 5spd. The g-series is a lil stouter but not by much same weakness. There is a mazda and kia g-series trans versions.

Re: bp swap questions
so the g trans would handle around 300whp down the strip.

Re: bp swap questions
Mfactory has a them about $700 + extra expense's u need to know if u need a 26 spline or 28 spline diff. The other brand is Quaife and expensive.

Re: bp swap questions
Not necessary:
aluminum crank pulley - $120
cam gears - $160
cams - $437
Just keep in mind before you start the G series transmissions crater over 300 ft/lb torque,
you could do a nice N/A built for a lot less a learn about rebuilding an engine.
