Low beams randomly working.

Post by Mikitu »

Hi guys, i have a problem my low beams don't work... but sometimes they do!

Everything is working fine expect the low beams. High beams, dash, turn... all ok.
Low beams work randomly, sometimes i turn on the car and they work sometimes they don't. Switching them on and off repeatedly doesn't seem to work, neither turning on and off the high beams.

I've searched and found it could be:
bulbs (sometimes work, so i'm guessing they are ok)
fuses (checked the main fuse block in the engine bay, all seem ok)
relay (?)

Well looking in the manual it seems to me that the headlight relay would be the one marked red. I swapped the connector with the green marked one, no change. I'm a bit lost now...
I hear clicking, but i guess it could be damaged anyway...

Any ideas?

Check the actual bulb socket. If it gets dirty or corroded it can cause a intermittent problem. If it is dirty, some brake cleaner on a rag and then a light sanding inside to clean the contacts. Also, using a electro grease will help it stay clean after you get it nice again. I do not know what the other relay is that you tried, but it could be different and not work even though the plug fits.

dielectric grease is what you meant to say there I think patdiesel, if you can not get either good old vaseline works almost as well but I recommend using dielectric grease. According to the manual it does indeed look like the one you have circled in red. To check that remove the plug and stick a 12 volt test light in there on the white/red wire and see if that lights up when you turn on the headlights.
