4ch Amp hookup

Post by Demonic1 »

This will probably be a quick and simple topic (I hope)

What I'm working with:
Kicker KS650 (front)
Kicker RS600 (back)
Crappy no-name headunit (cool functions though- USB, SD, headphone input)
MTX 10' sub
300W amp
sealed box

I bought an Alpine V12 MRV-F401 4channel amp to make up for my crappy head unit. When I went to install it, I realized my headunit had more in store for me... The deck has 4 RCA outputs - 2 for sub-out, 2 for pre-out. The Alpine has 4 inputs (FL,FR,RL,RR) and no high level inputs. I'm unsure how to hook this amp up. At first i though about splicing into the speaker outputs on my deck, but then I thought I should ask about it first. I also though maybe I should split the RCAs at the amp and do that? I figure that since I ran all new wiring when I put the Kicker speakers in, that I could just run my amps output through the default wiring harness. My big issue is getting it hooked up and in place. I plan on mounting it beneath my passenger seat. Is this a problem too?

Also of note, the kickers are 2008 models. Not the crappy Japan outsourced ones they make now.

As I understand it, you have the V12 MRV-F401 for the speakers, and the other mentioned "300W amp" for the sub?

If I were you, I'd buy two of these: http://cgi.ebay.com/Gold-RCA-Wire-Y-Spl ... 2c53a7770b" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;

And put them in at the speaker amp.

The amp for your sub should need both the sub pre-outs from the headunit.

The speaker amp will now have 4 inputs, with the help of that cable, but your audio will definitely be stereo. (only L&R)

No not splice the high power inputs into the RCA's, unless you want one less amp.

Beneath the seat is usually fine. Just make sure it doesn't catch, and remind people not to cram their feet under there and kick it.

Running ampr -> speaker through stock harness is usually fine... if you're ambitious, replace it with a slightly higher gauge, like 12 or 14. You're not running big power anyway. Oh, and its not like you can 'make up' for a bad component, if your headunit is crap quality, a $30 000 amp won't fix that.

Thanks Ryan,

Yeah, I have an MTX with a 300W amp in the rear (just enough kick to enjoy). It's hooked up and already working fine. And, yes it is using both the preouts. The Alpine 4ch has preouts too, in case I want to wire another sub behind it.

All the speaker wiring is 14ga from when I put the Kicker 6.5s in.

The deck has 4x40w output, the amp has 4x100. That's all I meant for 'make up'. The deck is good, it just underpowers the kickers.
