Amazing cold start...

Post by wytbishop »

So my wife and I took a holiday to the Turks and Caicos Islands from the 2nd to the 12th and just returned last night. The day we left Edmonton, and most of Canada, received a pretty serious dose of winter weather. The Purple Beast sat above ground, unplugged (in fact no block heater is installed at all) for 10 nights at an average of -30ºC. Last night when we got in it was -43º!!!

Car started first crank.

I just wanted to extole the virtues of my awesome little car. I was so proud.

Wow you're lucky, both my car and my parents' car have trouble starting in the cold. Well it's not that it has trouble starting, it just kinda scares me when it fires quickly but sticks to less than 200 rpm for a second or two before it's normal. And that coldest it's been here wasn't even -10.

you probably have good ignition system, spark plugs, battery. If you have weak/old battery there's chances that it wouldn't start at all. Also depends on your battery's CCA's

The guy across the street his brand new smart car wouldn't start.. You think those things would need mandatory block heaters.

I'm surprised, my ZE wouldn't start anywhere under -10 without being plugged in

I'm in the same boat Wyt, tonight is going to hit a low of -45 and I don't have a block heater either. In fact, since this cold snap ensued I've never experienced a problem both starting and driving, especially with my beloved yoko snow and ice tires. You gotta love the growl of pure grip!

I'm envious. My car has always started first crank since the day I purchased her.

The sad part, I doubt she's ever seen temps below zero.

The coldest it's been in my city has been around 9 degrees. :P
