Please help! Quebec traffic ticket specialists

Post by Da_Wiggy »

On the weekend I took a trip to Montreal and got a HUGE speeding ticket. I called Points and they said that they are not allowed in Quebec court rooms. Can any one tell me an equivelent of Points in Quebec? Also, what are the chances of the points I got being transferd back to Ontario? Any advise from experiance in Canada or USA would be greatly appreciated.
thanks
[ February 20, 2002: Message edited by: Da_Wiggy ]

I think the government has this new thing going started a few years back, that if you get a ticket in another country or province that points will be added to your record accordingly. I picked up a ticket in New York about two years back. The redneck cop gave me a ticket for going 19 mph over the limit. Yeah I got hit with a $200US ticket and couple of points cause they sent a copy of my ticket to the MTO. Sucks eh

I was on the radar at 149 kmh in a 100 zone(desolate highway). I already called points but they said they couldn't help me because the ticket was in Quebec. I havn't looked into it but the ticket was given to me by a provincial officer(who was very polite though he didn't give me a break) so I am hoping I can fight it any where in the province of Quebec. If the is the case I will fight it in Hull Which means the officer will have to appear in hull, 2 hours away. If he does not show up the case is dismissed.
it was a $300 dollar fine and 5 points!!! I don't care about the fine but the 5 points will murder my insurance. I currently have my G2 and am scheduled for my G test in a month and someone told me that when I get my G all my points will get wiped, is there any truth to this?
I have a previously clean driving record and never drive like a jerk, I didn't even realize I was going so fast untill I past the officer and looked down at my speed
Any advise or comments would be appreciated>
Thanks

Pay the ticket and learn you're lesson. I got two tickets in less than 2 months and lost total of 5 points. Now I'm much more carefull when I drive. I don't see the point of fighting a speeding ticket, it's not like it happened by accident...
Just my 2 cents

I agree with you but the only reason I want to fight it is I'm not sure I'll be able to afford the insurance now. Did your insurance go up and how old are you? Like I said I normally don't speed but it was my first long trip and I didn't realize how easy it is to lose track of how fast your going.

you have to fight it from an insurance stand-point! Take it form a guy that walked for 3 years because I couldn't get insurance! You're also partially right about fighting it...If the cop doesn't show up then the Crown has virtually no case (mine got thrown out on Monday) but they don't have to throw it out...Depending on the charge they can defer the case to a later date....Also if you choose to fight it, the province will decide where you get to fight it and if it was two hours form Hull they might not let you choose there...You're at their mercy.

I was paying 170 a month for liability. Does anyone have any idea how much I should expect to pay after this? I don't want to ask my insurance because I know people who's insurance companies didn't notice thier points and I sure don't wnt to draw attention to mine.

I'm 22, 3-4 years experience and this is my third car, now I pay 123$/month. I don't know what to expect when I will renew my insurance, but I think it will go unoticed (I hope  ) because I got a 2 point ticket back when I had my probation license and they gave me a rebate for good drivers to get my quote lower...

I just received my renewal in yesterday and I pay $121/month for full coverage (including collision) and this includes my house insurance...and I have two accidents on my record.

After talking to my insurance company, they said they would absorb the first ticket I got. I found a firm ( www.xcopper.com ) that said they could help out by writing letters to the prosocuter and they would "probobly" take points off. But that's a big probobly for an extra $350.
