Good or Bad?

Post by swman01 »

I have been doing research on an engine swap of my own, working out all the kinks and figuring out everything i can. i came across a website today ( link below) and was wondering if its good reference that i could use as far as engines to swap. and models of cars that potentially can swap motors with. If possible give it a read over and let me know what you think.

Is it maybe the same thread as this one, in the Mx-3.com 4cyl FAQ?

If ur not familiar with basic knowledge of tools, simple mechanic skills and common sense. As well as a far than beyond knowledge of the MX-3 that most "newbie" fail to just learn about the MX-3 they have. Then good luck.

Being that u have a 93 5spd do a BP swap easiest swap u can do. what are ur goals for what u want out of ur MX-3.

Im not gonna assume that the first part of your response was a shot at me. I agree with you, tho im no "newbie" to mechanics.... i can say however that i do not know everything and am trying to learn as much as possible.

I had posted this topic due to the fact that i have been looking almost everywhere in my local area for the Escort GT and no luck. So i was wondering if atleast the other model vehicles list on that link were truthful possible swaps for a BP engine that i could use.

To be honest with you about what i want out of this car is... i would like to have more power, i usually carry a crew of people with me when im driving and i would rather not, but it is what it is. and i have come to the conclusion that 88 hp is not enough for me. Just seems that im putting more stress on the car than should be. Also i look at this car as a project car and really dont wanna get rid of it because its not everywhere. its rare that i even see a fellow MXer cruising down the road. But all in all, my goal with this car is to modify it to my liking so i can enjoy driving it more than i already do.

Not really I could be worse the fact that you at least attempted to research made a difference.

These are a few model cars that you can find a BP in it, than being hell bent on a Ford Escort GT. Believe it or not I have a boosted Kia BP nested in my MX-3 engine bay. Please if you go BP and find a BP at a good price please get a Mazda Protege LX ECU and wiring harness for the BP swap. Save yourself the headache. I learn that the trying to be cheap and the hard way got so frustrated I went out and got the parts I needed easy as plug and play.

Best route will be in my opinion a BP swap for the extra power and reliability. I have had a BP in my MX-3 since 2005 best swap I ever did.

well thanks for you help i really do appreciate it. I had put up a post a few months ago about engine swaps, and the Escort was the only vehicle thrown out there that had the bp in it so i was looking and looking. But with this wider range of options it will make things much easier. also i was told that i should just buy the whole car so i can just swap out bith the engine and tranny for one vehicle to the other, think i should go that route?

personally if i was going to do a engine swap.. i would wanna buy the entire car my engine is coming from that way you can take any parts you need that will actually transfer over. than once you have your mx3 running on the new engine, any scrap parts you cant sell or use, throw em in the parts car and send it all to the wreckers

Depends of you want just the BP mated with ur current f-series trans than y buy a whole car if u want just a engine swap.

Do u want the bp and g-series trans that comes with it.
