unusual swap: Yamaha 3.2L SHO v6

Post by torkair »

I was wondering if an SHO v6 will swap into these little cars. The SHO origionally came in the ford Tarus with both automatic and manual trannies and is pretty much a ford 3 litre v6 block with a bunch of nifty Yamaha stuff bolted on to the top making about 280hp/tq from the factory. Any info i can get on this possible swap would be great as i have a "thing" for these motors.

There is no info on it cause it's never been done, and it's not compatible, not without custom work. The Mx-3 was designed to accept only Mazda K-series V6's and Mazda B-series 4cyls, that's it that's all. Anything else will require custom work, parts and electrical. Custom = $$$

Mazda F-Series will fit as well with only minor custom work, and it is not advised to use the KJ or KF platforms. (KJ requires custom work, KF is weak)

I've seen that motor put in a probe before, but I think it was a first gen. Correct me if I'm wrong also, the v6 sho doesn't have 280bhp... Doesn't it have like 220?

Yup solo, you're right. 220hp 200tq (for the 3.0) 220 and 215 for the 3.2. I thought the 280 seemed high....

with swapping in the 3.0L cams into the 3.2L and a little cleanup work on the intake and head ports you can hit 280 hp. As for the new ecotech v6, that thing is a beauty and should be optioned for other cars too, but thats just wishful thinking :). Im definately no stranger to turning wrenches, but all this electronic stuff has me scratching my head a bit.
