Shell Gasoline?
Shell Gasoline?
So i usually just run arco fuel in my gas tank.. we should all know it is the crappiest cheap gas you can put in your car..
My car has always had this problem where it sputters when i take off and randomly cuts out as im trying to keep a steady speed.
I was completly empty, Orange light for 2 days... and completly filled my tank with shells gas.
Sputtering is gone and my car drives like a champ. Anybody have a similiar story?

Re: Shell Gasoline?
I used to run BP gasoline in my ZE.
My ZE sputtered and hesitated like crazy.
I changed to Chevron.
turned out it was my air flow sensor.

Re: Shell Gasoline?
Haha, seriously though, ask your shell station whether they mix ethanol.
Shell here in Chat town is ethanol free, whereas BP, Texaco/Chevron and Exxon (the only other competitors in the area) all use 10%.
I suggest asking the clerk about their fuels before making your final decision on what gasoline to purchase in your area.

It wasn't ethanol.. it was something i havn't heard of before. I that ethanol is put into gas in some places but this was called something else.

Re: Shell Gasoline?
Shell promotes their "nitrogen enriched" gasolines, if that's what you're thinking of

Re: Shell Gasoline?
I used to run chevron, car ran good on it, but it ate up the gas more.
Now I run shell 91 and my car runs good, and I get decent mileage. Plus I can use my airmiles

Re: Shell Gasoline?
For the record, Shell DOES exceed the government detergent/ect requirements, so yes, it is a better fuel
Re: Shell Gasoline?
I use Vpower, every tank, I've never had this car stall on me ever not even a sputter. The only time it quit was when I blew the VC gasket and fried the alty.

Re: Shell Gasoline?
They may have used the names MTBE (Methyl Tertiary-Butyl Ether). which is on the process of being banned due to environmental and health problems.Mx3Kid16 wrote:It wasn't ethanol.. it was something i havn't heard of before. I that ethanol is put into gas in some places but this was called something else.
In its place, they can be using one of several other alternatives, like:
TAME (Tertiary-Amyl Butyl Ether)
ETBE (Ethyl Tertiary-Butyl Ether)
Ethanol (which they use because it's cheaper than ETBE)
Or, in very high quality (very expensive) gasoline, straight Iso-Octane.

Re: Shell Gasoline?
I switched to Shell gasoline in my daily driver (impreza awd) and I average 3 more MPG over others (Wawa, Turkey Hill, Hess). I will probably stick to Shell and/or Sunoco once the mx-3 is road ready.

Re: Shell Gasoline?
I think Shell is overrated...it doesn't act as octane booster but more like cleaner

Re: Shell Gasoline?
you think so or you know so? Really, we need proof it works. You can't really says "ya it works" unless you have data to prove it.Mx3Kid16 wrote:Yeah thats it. "Nitrogen-Enriched"

Re: Shell Gasoline?
I agree, but I don't need to boost the octane on a K8. It's already slow and will continue to be slow. I want the engine to be clean, and last a long time. So when I buy another GS with a popped K8 I can swap it. And the SE gets a ZE.
