Oxygen sensor

Post by PTCS »

Just purchased an MX3 1.8 v6.. Put a newer JDM engine in ... seems to run well... took the car out on the highway last night and the check engine light came on. Phoned Mazda service... service rep believes that it in all likelihood could be caused by an oxygen sensor... just wondering, I have found the one just underneath the engine.. does anyone else know how many there are and their locations. Also, I was wanting to know how to jump the code port so that I could read the check engine code with out an obd1 system..
thanx

Take a paper clip or something and jump the TEN and GRD in the DIAG box located next to the brake reservoir. Turn the ignition on but don't start the car. A long flash means 10 a short flash means 1's so, two long and two short would be 22. Do a search here or on Google to find a list of mazda diagnostic codes.

Are there four oxygen sensors on the 1992 mazda mx3. I looked in the manual on line and I can't find the locaion of the sensors.. I see one under neath the car just behind the rad hose.. how many others Also with a 17 code.. this would mean that the o2 sensor is not faulty.. that the air mixture needs to be adjusted.. Would a rear o2 sensor be the same as the front sensor or do you need to buy separate sensors.. as well you mentioned the importance of a Denso o2 sensor.. do you have the part number

There should only be ONE sensor on the 92. Regardless, the car only needs one. The post cat sensor introduces in later years was strictly an emmissions thing, as a check to make sure the catalytic converter was operating correctly.

Did you find the tables for 02 sensors?

don't talk to Mazda, if they're diagnosing your car without seeing it, they're entirely retarded and just want your money (OEM 02 sensor- $300)

About where are you from in MB/SK?

Edit, thanks Danny for the subtle "duh" on the V6 having two....

In the 92 there's two for the V6 located about 3" down both front and rear (right and left) exhaust pipe. If it's a JDM engine then it has no EGR exhaust port drilled into the intake. Make sure the EGR was installed and hooked up or else you'll get a code.
