whats better?

Post by Berbz »

Im just curious about what is better as in faster out of the mx3 gs and rs. I know the gs is a 1.8 v6 and the rs is a 1.6 4 cylinder but i see alot of the 1.6 mx3s with alot of mods done to them. So i guess my question is that is there a engine swap for the 1.6 mx3 thats faster than the gs? and what swaps can you do for both cars?

Thanks.

with both being stock the GS is faster.
However with the rs you can do a direct swap for a bp engine then making it faster that the stock gs.
but the gs you can swap with a klze making it (i think) faster again.
but then from there you can just build either or. and usually from the the extra mods and builds it will vary to which is faster.
search around some. there's a .25 mile time list on here that has their times. and i believe the fastest was a turbo'd klze. soemone will correct me if i'm wrong.

The BP has a lot of potential when turbo'd. But then so does the ZE. I have seen articles from places like New Zealand and Austrailia where guys have build very very high output ZE's. Like 1000HP. The ZE bottom end is near bulletproof but that's a totally unrealistic number for most people. 300HP BP-T's and ZE-T's are not uncommon though.

The general consensus is that you can't, or at least that's not worth it.
I'm planning to prove that opinion wrong in the (hopefully) not so far future.

Isn't the 1/4 mile times for the 1.8 BP (non turbo) around 16 seconds? Just a curious thought.

The Millenia S supercharger won't directly work since the KJ heads were modified to fit the S/C In between, specifically the intake ports. I'd like to think it would fit if you used it to replace the IM and made a custom plenum for it to mount to...than it could work. But also remember that the S/C for the KJ was designed to work differently with the motor for efficiency (see Miller Cycle), but it's still a supercharger.

If you could make a KJ Mx-3 that got 35mpg and had 170+hp it would be worth the work in my opinion. You'd save about $750 per year in fuel over the average MX-3. It would pay for itself in a couple of years.

I believe Jesse is trying to make an mx3 that has 200hp and gets 35mpg :) w/ a ZE.

I would love 32mpg and 200whp, instead of the 22-25 I get w/ alot less than 200whp :(

I will play w/ MS when I have money sometime in the future.

Well, the KJ already has more than 200 HP...so that would make it worthwhile.
However, I'm aiming for a little more... :welder:

Rated at 217 means it's likely to actually put down about 170 in stock form. Certainly there is room to improve that.

Oh! Sorry, my bad. I thought you were talking about the HP rating...
Anyways, yes, I think there's LOOOOOTS of room for improvement...
