ford probe 2ltr engine in a 1.6 mx-3 can it be done.

Post by kami_no_michi »

i was recently told by someone on fordprobe forum in the uk that the 2ltr 16v engine fits into the mx-3 1.6 chasis apparently it uses the same engine mounts. is this true. i understand u would need the probe driveshafts and ecu / gearbox and possibly some splicing of the loom but all a friend of mine wants to confirm is if the engine actually fits into the engine bay. thanks.

lots of different engines fit. Time, money and skill are your only limitations.

I think that a FSDE would be a cool swap, and I am pretty sure you can get it to work. You can use alot of the fords parts probably. It may come down to some harness and some motor mount work.

I'm quite sure the F series trannies are different too.

so, add axle/transmission/hub problems.

well the guy from probe forum uk said the engine would fit into original mounts but i suspected u would need gearbox and driveshafts as it would be similar to the bp swap.

Depends which 2.0L...

The turbo F2T shouldn't be no different to install than the FE3T that was done, but it's still a custom setup.

If you want to put in an FS, I'm not sure why, they're not strong motors. Look at the MazdaSpeed Protege, that's the motor it uses and can't handle much more than stock boost before having to upgrade the internals.
