Post by CrashAction55 »

Sup I race dirt track ovals and want to put and zx2 with 5 speed in my car. Im about to buy the complete 2001 zx2 car with everything in it to do the swap? I just want to know if it will work before i sink money into it. My mx3 is a 92 body.

the zx2 is on a bp platform though isnt it. And the 1.8 bp is transplanted all the time into a mx3. Is there a differance between the two that could stop me

If people can swap a klze into a zx2, I'm sure you can swap a zetec into an mx-3. I think there was someone that did it.

Thanks to SuperK for posting that first link in the lower link's thread. Made it easier to find.

Yoda wrote: I don't know if your donor car was rear-ended but you may want to consider swap out the rear suspension assy as well. The cross member is beefier and attachment points have been gusseted and reenforced over the original Mazda design. If you do this just remember to convert to the MX-3 rear spindles and hubs to maintain the correct track width.
I'm looking into this this weekend. Stiffer rear subframe would be cool.

Originally I was planning on a bp motor than turboing it later but recently at the wrecking yard I have found and done a little research on the escort third gen motors. The zetec vct motors seem to be better more efficient motors than the b series. i dont know if they handle a turbo any better. From what I have found online they use g5m transmissions still. So, can I just bolt that in or what. I don’t know if the mounts are the same or anything. The wheelbase is still the same distance so it would seem that everything should go right in.

Do it, I think a zetec in a mx3 would be cool. A lot cooler then the ugly bp. Plus its more of a updated motor and as you said there's plenty of aftermarket.

I say go for it, yoda stated in the other posts it can be done for sure, I don't doubt his advice and neither should anyone else
