Shuddering when getting to the limits of traction
Shuddering when getting to the limits of traction
If I'm taking a corner really quickly I'll feel the whole car start to shudder right before the tires lose grip and it starts sliding. It also shudders the same way when I shift into 2nd near the redline and get a bit of wheelspin. I figured something is loose or worn out, but what could it be?

Re: Shuddering when getting to the limits of traction
Maybe you don't actually have enough power to break em loose? That's wheelhop, my Datsun is notorious for that with the airride. I wouldn't make a habit of it, or you might be replacing wheel bearings.

Re: Shuddering when getting to the limits of traction
I've seen videos of wheel hop and it was alot more slowly, this is like a really fast shuddering, around the same frequency as ABS would pump a brake pedal. And I can break my wheels loose in 1st with zero wheel hop.

Re: Shuddering when getting to the limits of traction
Axles binding?
Re: Shuddering when getting to the limits of traction
Again it's the same sound when turning as when shifting into second at high rpm. Tire pressure is somewhere around 36-37. And I don't think that the axles are binding because the shuddering goes away completely if the tires break loose and it starts sliding.
Also, this is prbably related but I've noticed that it tends to wander a bit side-to-side at highway speeds.

Re: Shuddering when getting to the limits of traction
I'm actually not sure if I can feel it in the wheel, the whole car shuddering make me concentrate on that and not notice the steering wheel.

Re: Shuddering when getting to the limits of traction
Are you dropped at all? Is your suspension at the limit?
Re: Shuddering when getting to the limits of traction
I'm not dropped but I have a feeling that I might be on aftermarket springs/struts because the ride is as harsh as my friend's dropped mx3.

Re: Shuddering when getting to the limits of traction
Check your bushings, if theyre shot you could have shuddering/harsh ride.
Re: Shuddering when getting to the limits of traction
That's what I was thinking too, but where are the important ones located? I just noticed that some of my crossmember bushings are just about gone, would that cause problems?

Re: Shuddering when getting to the limits of traction
haha, that would certainly cause problems...all the bushings are important really.
