Did some wiring today.

Went to the scrap yard, pulled another BP09 ECM with plugs... my PCV hose (lost the original :dunno: ) and a power steering bolt from a 2.2 turbo in order to fasten my 90amp MPV alternator to my mount.

Yay.

Got to Mazda, and ran the VICS wire, put the pin into the stock plug. Super easy, but I'll explain anyway.

Get a plug you don't need, with a pin you need in it. The long sides of each plug will unclip and fold away. Once you do that, push with a little tool into the pin, and pull on the wire at the same time and it will pop out. to install it again, just push it in(with the side fodled down), it should click.

People talk about running red/white to the ECM as well, but thats silly because its part of the injector harness, and mostly everything else.

The coolant temp sensor is part of the injector harness, which is different than the SOHC harness. The effect is that the injector harness is a 8 plug on the BP and 6 plug on the SOHC. (extra two wires on bp are the +VICS wire (black/brn, or something like that) and the coolant ground...(my was messed, I had two of the exact same wire running to two different parts of the coolant sensor apparatus... I hope I wired it right) I cut the plug off of the main harness and wired in the BP one, because I'm switching rails later again, so I only want to do it once.

Not sure what to do with the disty. They are both the same plug, and 3 wires are the same, but on the BP its a yellow/blue (i think) and on the mx harness its solid orange. hmm. Just plug and see what happens.

picked up some 75W90 half synthetic for the tranny

some castrol 5W10 crap to flush out new ring residue and such...and a filter.

So now all I need is time, I have everything else. Alty needs to go in, and then everything after that (axles, exhaust and such) and then battery and intake... and thats all.

Should be running next saturday :)

So. It runs.

Got everything together, and it didn't want to run at all.

coax it a lot with the starter, and a bit with the pedal and I got it to idle at 1k for 15 minutes. Shut her down for a bit.

Start again, runs 10x better. let it idle between 1-2k. starts running really good with just a few hiccups.

take it around the building, and on seccond lap its overheating (just idling around) so turn it off and take a look. air bubble in cooling system. fixed. start, still overheating.

it doesnt SEEM to be overheating, its like the sensor is in the wrong range. It sits between the upper limit and the red. not higher, and a bit lower when moving. cooling fan comes on only when at that position, so its like the guage is out.

Rad gets hot, so coolant is flowing. it just doesn't make sense that it would overheat.

Leaks a bit of coolant somewhere on pully side. its random leaks, sometimes a few drips, sometimes a lot sometimes none.

Give it a few more trouble shooting days.

Hmm...

Figure I'll go pick up a BP thermosensor (green plug)
and new guages
and the clutch clicks a little when fully depressed
and it leaks a teeny bit of coolant from a mystery location on pully side
and something is rubbing on belt side. Probably the stupid splash sheild/tbelt cover stuff.
PS hose also would rub on the pully, but I tied it back with yellow nylon rope (black ziptie next)
oh, and tiny exhaust leak after the flex pipe.
and need to reassemble some things inside (bolt down ECM)
and I need hood rubber clips, as my headlight rubbers hang all stupid like when I open the hood.

but... no CEL! Ha.

yeah if you used the tracer thermosensor it will read quite high. Glad to hear you got it up and running! As soon as I get home I will be able to throw in my fuel rail and get my BP aspire up and running.

Thats the green plug right?

You say I need an MX-3 one? Can I just pop it out of the MX manifold and use it? I would think so, eh?

Thanks, I was meaning to look for that answer sometime this week.

Driving the whole mile and a half home from work today.

1/4 mile of the way home, I see a flash of a red light on the left side of dash, I swear it wasn't orange. I don't even know what it was.

turn onto my driveway and car shudders, lights dim and it almost dies.

turn into my parking spot and neutral/idle and it turns itself off for me.

Hmmmmm...

The charge light comes on sometimes when it sits off for awhile with stereo running. it makes the idle bad, but if I push it up over 2k for a seccond it goes away. I know the alty is weak.

I remember I didn't tighten my neg terminal perfectly, so I'll check that first. I also know my ignition wires are toasty. (actually electricuted someone, haha.)

It was raining. I wasn't puddle jumping though.

Also, I don't think my gas guage is accurate, so I'll pop a few litres of our emergency in.

any other suggestions?

so I put in the SOHC thermosensor.... guage didn't change.

It was my neg battery terminal.

I changed the oil @ 200km

I fixed my exhaust leak (yay for high heat RTV)

I ran new washer fluid lines. It actually sprays better. I vote do it, its only like .50/ft.

Cap and rotor. I noticed it sounded different.

Groundwires. Ran new one from battery to the bracket beside the DRL, or where it should be. Ran one from pass side engine lift point to somewhere on the strut tower. Ran one from disty bolt to somewhere beside intake, right on the frame rail. I used really good copper terminals, crimped, soldered and taped on I think 2 or 4 guage wire.

I looked for my coolant leak. Its seems to be coming from the pump. All I can say is "s---". Thats a lot of stuff to pull off again... but it only leaks like 2ml/drive It doesn't leak when running. only when recently turned off. Its so weired.

CAI is soon. I plan on making the adapters from... I won't tell you, lets see if you can guess.

you could probably use a thermosensor from a B8, I don't know about a B6. The green square plug should be it.

I've used a B6ME and a BP one. Same result. Would B8 be any different? is there a resistance difference in the harness?

On a lower note, I took her up to 6k for the first time and the block heater exploded out of the back of the block and pissed coolant all over the exhaust. Smelly.

I tried to do it on the driveway, but I can't get the o-ring to seat properly in the rusty hole. My brother will tow me to Mazda where I can do it nice and comfy in the shop with all the right tools, and a hoist.

My hypothesis is that the cheap ford heater, or at least the fastener behind it, got all rusted out from the water over it all the time and simply failed under the high pressure. Pushed right out.

Got the block heater done. Perfect. I actually needed a different unit... but its all good now.

did a lap around Mazda. stop, look under: drip drip drip. bah.

look around, that isn't coolant... its gasoline! oh crap, its dripping off the crappy ford fuel rail through the alternator and down onto the hot exhaust. run to turn car off.

fixed with a hose clamp.

It now drips a brownish watery fluid, a little 1" size patch each time I park it. I can't figure out what it is.... another day on the hoist. I have barely any actual antifreeze in the car now, so the drip doesn't smell like coolant. It doesn't feel like oil, but it looks like it.

Stupid leakies!

Aside from that, it runs like an absolute champ. much quicker. Got her up to 6k a few times now.

When coming off of the main highway onto my little rural highway, there is a bridge just a ways down the road. Taking the corner at reasonable speed, my B6 could make it to 90-100 before the bridge. My moms Sentra 1.8 could do 100. BP does 110-120 :D and thats still 1.4k below redline shifts.

Fixed the thermostat problem thanks to nerd racing. It is indeed the little one wire sensor just below the thermostat facing the rad. I believe its called a temp receiver unit.

Now I'm looking at wires...

I'm just about to roll the body over to 150 000 KM. (approx 128k mi)

The engine over to 500 KM.

Ha. My Odometer is out 1% so give or take 1500 KM.
