92 mx-3 Redline

i got a 92 mx3 1.8 v6

redline shows at 7,000 my friend who says he knows somone that also drives a mx3 that the redline is safe to take it to 7,500 is this true? or does his friend just have a diffrent car or is his friend just stupid?

The fuel cut should be at 7800rpm on a 92 if i'm not mistaken. I'd say 7500rpm safe but worthless.

In North America our redline is marked as 7000, but overseas it's 7500, but they also have a slightly different motor, using a K8ZE. That's not to say that it can or can't handle 7500, but on a similar note, the KLDE uses stronger retainers compared to the ZE, and people tend to break them after constant reving beyond 7000. That also may be the case on the K8DE, but I'm sure there's a reason why it redlines at 7000, but you never know.

The Redline is there for a reason, and I'd stick with that. Besides, just cause you rev it higher doesn't mean you'll be faster.

I agree, stick with the redline. Overreving can cause a nasty boom and a long oil slick. I once blew a chev 350, we could only find 5 of 16 push rods & the cam was in 2 pieces (the car also filled with smoke at 130 mph).

On the bright side, my buddy that was with me still uses the half cam for a paper wieght

Also, if you read the specs for your engine, the peak listed HP/TQ @ RPM are the magic numbers. After those RPM's, power falls again. You want to keep the middle of your gear right over that sweet spot. That shouldn't bring you to redline.

I've actually got a question about RPM's and didn't want to junk up the forums with another topic.
I finally took mine on the highway this past weekend, and at 120KM/H I'm hitting close to 4000RPM in 5th gear.

Does that sound normal for the stock GS 6 cyl? Mine's a 92 GS.

There are lots of topics about this, you could have searched it up. 4000rpm at 120km/h is normal for our transmissions as it is geared low, for high revving power

I run mine right to the limitter all the time, shouldn't hurt, the engine can take more. s--- it still pulls right till the fuel cuts. If it's not something is wrong. With mine the fuel pressure regulator vacuum switch was buggered so it would start dropping off at like 6800 once that was fixed it would pull right to the limitter.

The stock oil pump generally craps itself at 8500 to 9000 RPM and the valves
float at that rev range as well.
