So... I hit a deer today.

I love my mazda.

I was cruising 90kph down the road, its dark out, and I see movement in the far side ditch. I really look now, and at the same time the the gf yells "deer!" slam the brakes. It comes out infront of me and I smash it in the leg with my licence plate. It rolls over and off the hood, and summersaults into the ditch, where it proceedes to run on. I probably hit it going 50 or 60.

Zero damage! Just hair in the hood. I hope it hurt!

I also got my BP TB in the mail. Turpro on CP, good guy.

Still looking for head bolts. I might have to go bend over at mazda.

Eeek... glad to hear you're ok and nothing bad happened. Should have hit it a little harder and made up some deer tartar. :)

It could have been much worse. If I had reacted an eighth of a seccond later, it would have made it up onto the windsheild. Definately close.

Glad you're ok! and the Car! Did you ever find the mazda BP fuel rail?

I'm heading to the junkyard Thursday some time so I'll look if you still need it.

Why does my car shudder under hard acceleration in the middle-top half of seccond? It does it a tiny bit if I use third in the same range, but not nearly as much.

Its also only when I have traction. Spinning on snow is a very smooth progression.

Is it suspension related? Is this at the wheels, or at the engine/tranny? Is it illegal to drive without a hood? I want to watch my motor.
my friends car did that. his motor mounts were loose.. but i dont think thats your problem

So, I got my rings...

The plan is to get the rings in on the 7th. Still waiting on rail from Mx3boyze, I'm sure it will be here soon.

Take a retarded drivers course on the 14th, start the install on the 21st (6 hour haul, anyone?) and 3 more hours on the 23rd, and I hope it runs!

9 hours sound do-able for a guy and his mechanic, with a full shop?

If everything goes to plan:

-Remove SOHC
-Swap over everything belt side, flywheel and clutch, tranny, starter, a sensor on the thermo housing.... thats all I think.
-Put said parts onto BP
-Flush coolant, quick scrub for bay
-Put BP into bay
-Fill BP with fluids
-Start

I have one week for troubleshooting before I take a 300km treck to Brandon to pay for the swap :)

It's much easier to take out engine/tranny all at once, rather than just trying to drop the tranny, and same goes for putting it all in. (I think you know this)

Make sure you get new axle shaft seals or whatever they are called - and also check the condition of your CV boots.

You using the Fseries tranny in your car or do you have the upgraded g-series from the BP?

Just running F for now. G swap w/ 5th gear is later down the road.

I'll only being replacing things that need it for now, when I do the tranny later I might do entire axles as well. I also know about boots. I learned something about boots the other day... sometimes it gets so cold up here you need to change the grease, because it partially freezes.

^ Ya. Ok, if you're plannin on changing tranny soon, you don't need to change the seals - theyre only a few dollars though so it's not too bad.

Got the rings in. Oil pan is back on.

All I really need is my fuel rail. I think its on the way from mx3boyze, but I haven't talked to him in awhile. I'll give it another week I guess.

I decided not to do connecting rod bearings just yet. They look OK, and I'll do them when I do G/5th/MBSP swaps.

I'm trading VC's with a guy from CP.

I'm really thinking about pushing the swap back untill April. Next weekend is a stupid novice driver's course, then one free weekend, and then the next one I'm out of town for a week with my car...

To avoid so many potential headaches, I'm just going to start when I get back. Trekking 3h in a car with a freshy swapped motor has too many impending issues which of COURSE would always appear in exactly the worst possible moments.

So I think thats my plan. I'll get the I/M back on the head ASAP, delete the oil cooler on the block, and then its just a waiting game.

Motor is assembled aside from fuel rail. Its been 4 weeks coming from mx3boyze, thats a bit too long for me.

Swap is scheduled to start April 18th and drive it out of the shop on the 25th.

Ride it around untill I'm sure everything works.

Buy a bearing kit and install those when I find a MBSP. Then the rebuild is entire and complete, and then I can start on bodywork.

Got a job that pays $18/h for summer :) 70% will go to school but thats still more to play with than I have now.

I really should have taken more pictures of the rebuild. Oh well, here's a list.

1991 BP from a Merc Tracer (atx)
-Engine head professionally cleaned w/ valves and seats reground.
-Cleaned and primed HLA's
-Cyl bores honed to a sexy grey finish
-Seriously clean stock pistons clad with Nippon piston rings (Ebay)
-Every gasket and seal replaced
-New waterpump, pullies, and t belt
-Inspected all other bearing surfaces. All mating metal parts primed with lithium grease.
-A/C braket removed
-painted block/head/IM nice and black
-TB replaced and hourglassed/coned,
-Ford VC replaced (to be painted)
-New thermostat and plugs

Things yet to be considered
-Mazda fuel rail
-MBSP
-Main and rod bearings
-Oil pump
-Plug wires
-Remove oil cooler, or loop it. same diff.
-Install complete I/M before dropping in motor
-exhintake w/ modified cam gear

Yay.

hey I bought some fittings that press into the Ford special line flares and they have a hose barb on the end. I bought them for $5 at advance auto. You need one of each size.
