Alot of fabbing, especially if you go RWD,that's going to be tough, doable, but tough.
There's very little information because only a few people have ever done it. Apparently the Mazda Miata B-Series gearboxes bolt up to rotaries, so the FWD trans would be possible as well. Rotaries aren't reliable motors unfortunately, replacing apex seals ever 100'000kms and you'll have traction issues with the front being so light. Way beneficial to stick with what the Mx-3 takes and work with that.

Re: 13B into an mx3
Good luck with that. If it was me and I felt like wasting at least $20,000 (thats being generous) during a recession I'd spend the extra $2000 or so on getting a 20B instead of a 13B. Might as well go all out. ![Rolling Eyes ](./images/smilies/icon_rolleyes.gif)

Re: 13B into an mx3
i've another 13b in the shed so quad rotor maybe??
anyway on a serious train of thought
the mx3 and mx 5 basically share a bare chassis no?
therefore the rear axel would be the right width?
the mx5 gearbox bolts up to the 13b correct?

Re: 13B into an mx3
Not even close. The Mx-3 is 90% based off the 323/Protege chassis, there's nothing shared between them and the Miata, the Miata just uses the same 4cyl motor, but from there, it does it's own thing. It's not a shared-chassis car, it's something that Mazda (meticously) focused on to do what it does, and that's why it's so successful.Robx1r wrote:therefore the rear axel would be the right width?

Apparently it does, for what I read. I don't know if that's true, but so it seems. If you're serious, you may want to look more into it. But if that's what you want to do, Miata's are cheap, get one of them to do this project.

Re: 13B into an mx3
Put an FE3 in, 2.0L inline 4, rafi is running 10.xx on one of these, very boost friendly motor, just need to fab some mounts and whatnot.
No point in trying to put a rotary in. Go buy some piping and make your own frame, put the 13B in that, because that's what the mx3 will be like after you are done anyway.

Why not just go BPT? Even a Turbo KL would be easy and hell of alot cheaper.
