Re: Shades - 1996 MX-3 RS
Just some things I've been working on while waiting for my manny to come back...
She ain't quite done since I don't have the manny to mount the turbo in... the J bends need a piece of straight inbetween the bend.
I also had to take out the tow hooks in the front, anyone else had to do that for their piping?

Re: Shades - 1996 MX-3 RS
Who's hiding under there?
Got her back from the welder... $200 later...
More Pictures...
On a depressing note even after I bolted it to a 1/2" thick steel plate, all three flanges are warped... I'm having trouble with my intercooler piping... where I planned for my wastegate to dump, I have intercooler piping to dodge... and I started getting tired and wreckless and scratched the **** outta my wastegate.
On a less depressing note...
She sticks out 2" from the body... wow!

Re: Shades - 1996 MX-3 RS
Thanks guys... yeah, I'm just stressing over the flanges. It's just that I might have to take time off work to go machine them, or pay someone to do it.

It is common practice to surface all flanges after welding. Looks like it's going to be really tight routing that down pipe. Very nice tho. You should clean up the welds and coat that biotch.

CRAZY.
Are you going to use a half rad? Is that rad gonna work with that honking turbo right up against it

Re: Shades - 1996 MX-3 RS
It should work as is... I like the stock rad as it is very efficient at removing heat from the system. I just have to notch that top tab on the rad and she's set...

Re: Shades - 1996 MX-3 RS
I read 80% of your worklog over on CP. took me an hour.
Your build is a perfect example of what I want to do when I'm out of school, with decent income (say, 7 years?)
Absolute sex. Thats better than anything you can buy new. Its an entire aftermarket motor. You still have the stock crank, thats about it. BP cranks are awesome, so who wants an aftermarket one anyway?
How far are you going with this setup? I saw your suspension/subframe job. Going with any serious chassis work? Power isn't you're issue, its going to be keeping your wheels going the same speed as the pavement below it, and avoiding the understeer caused by wheels spinning in corners. Beefy swaybars, good bushings, and maybe consider chassis stiffening.
I love it.
