[WTB] Help buying head bolts
Okay, so nowhere in Canada are there headbolts for my 91 1.8 DOHC BP.
I do not want studs
This is my last resort before going to Mazda.
Can someone, a helpful individual out there, go and check their local autoparts stores for BP head bolts? I would pay you, you pay them, and ship them to me? Of course I pay shipping too...
I just want quotes for now, so I can compare the shipping, and maybe it might be worth it to go to Maz, but I doubt it.
Thanks guys!

Re: [WTB] Help buying head bolts
a quick check on ebay is showing that the BP head studs are the same as the B6.. not sure about the head bolts tho.. might be worth looking into.

Ebay

anything else that comes up in google
I do not want head studs! I want to pay <$50, not $150. My engine will not be boosted. I just want some bolts. If I wanted studs, I would have said studs.
Trevor, that would be awesome, thanks.
Sorry for sounding pissy, but I made a point of saying I want bolts, exactly so people didn't say "studs this" or "studs that" I edited first post, made it more clear.

Re: [WTB] Help buying head bolts
So maybe I am stupid. Some guys on CP say BP HB's aren't TTY. I must investigate the manuals at work. Still, its a very mixed review.

Re: [WTB] Help buying head bolts
When I re-did my head gaskets, I checked with my local machine shop, who then consulted their shjop manual, and they reassured me that my V6 Head bolts are NOT TTY. However, they just suggest measuring the length of the bolts (all) just in case. The online manual says the same. If they are within a mm or so, they should be fine. Technically, with all bolts, once they are toqued down, the threads stretch a tiny bit.
Again, I inquired about a K8 and you are looking for a B6 set but I would imagine they would be similar.

Check this site:

They may have what you're looking for. Just ignore where they say "studs"

Re: [WTB] Help buying head bolts
Clarification - BP set. B6 is much easier to find.
Also, headbolts dot com doesn't have what I need. they have 1.8 protege studs, but FP engine (late 90's, early 2k)

Re: [WTB] Help buying head bolts
ahh, sorry, I'm a V6 guy so I'm not too familiar with the ins and outs of the 4cyl's. I'll still keep my eyes out for you though. I personally can't stand it when you need something and can't find it.

Re: [WTB] Help buying head bolts
Check flyin miata, or ARP headbolts. Search through miata forums, or on club protege. might be a little more pricey, but won't be as expensive as the dealer, and you will get a top notch product!

NVM! I just read your post on CP, looks like you're going to reuse the old ones for cost's sake!

Re: [WTB] Help buying head bolts
Maybe I'm crazy, or maybe I just said it on CP, but I want cheap-o. This means NOT studs, and ARP are more expensive than dealer, especially with the current exchange rate. I think I'm reusing, as apparently they aren't TTY, I'll find out tomorrow.

Re: [WTB] Help buying head bolts
Here is what the manual says.
Before installation, measure the length of each bolt. Replace any that exceed the maximum length. Length: 99.2-99.8 mm {3.91-3.92 in} Maximum: 100.5 mm {3.957 in}.
Also the bolts are not tty as they are just torqued to 1.8L/4 engines, torque cylinder head bolts in three steps in sequence to 56 - 60 ft.lb. only reason to replace would be if they are streched beyond the limits. If the head was never off before i would doubt thet they where streched beyond the limit.
In my experiance tty bolts are tourqued really low like 30 ft.lb. Then 90 degrees 90 degrees. The k8 is an exception to this it does not state to replace the head bolt even tho they are tourqued to 19ft/lbs then 90 degrees 90degrees.
So if none are longer than specifyed than i see no reason to buy new bolts. If they are streched go to a salvage yard and pull some.
