Re: Ryan - 1993 Black RS
The JY grill looks good. You should paint everything behind it flat black.

No, I learned in school today how to make a one piece
I can also mill my own material. Why would I pay when I can make? Especially when I can't afford?

Re: Ryan - 1993 Black RS
Here.

The transition is smooth. It will evenetually be made from some sort of thin plastic. Sealed with some form of urethane. I will keep in mind engine bay temperatures. I will most likely "sew" it together as well for added strength.
If someone seriously wants, I can provide a dimensioned copy for reproduction. This goes for the cork gasket as well.
On another note, this is the urethane I have chosen to do my bumper repairs for good...

Its the strongest I could find. It should work very well

Re: Ryan - 1993 Black RS
Haven't posted in here in forever... mainly because I have done nothing interesting.
Put on winters, got my sub amp remote wire into a switch, busted up my rear suspension...
So my newer To-Do list:
-Fix rear suspension (expensive...
)
-Finish reparing GS lip
-Remove plastic lense from DS altezza (broke the other side, I was pissed.)
-Finish painting/buff hood (almost done
)
-Sand blast rust and prime. (stop cancer now, cure later)
-Lube speedo cable (it has issues in the cold)
-Oxy sensor
-HEI Mod w/ coil
Question on the HEI mod... I'm only vague familar with the terminology yet, but I have the feeling I can't build it exactly like the v6'rs...
Info I have halfass gathered

It seems Shameem is the braino I need to contact....Gro Harlem wrote:its actually ridiculously easy.
the wiring pinouts are IDENTICAL TO THE K8 so you basically follow my HEI module how-to but for your 4-cylinder.
sure you can drill out the cap & install a post, but guess what....the SOHC cap & rotor (same as BP) FITS, no problems. Just swap it and you already have yourself the external coil post. You have to use the rotor b/c the internal coil disty has a weird spring-loaded cap & the rotor just has a lead on it, quite different from the cheaper & simpler external coil cap & rotor design.
remove your old coil (easy as hell, just take apart the disty & remove it) otherwise the lead post thingy sticks out and interferes with the cap.
After that, wire it up like my how-to...it worked fine for my buddies festiva

Re: Ryan - 1993 Black RS
Called a 'development'. Anything you can unfold and discover it is a single flat piece of material. This, unfortunately is a little too complex for ONE piece. Once rings are done again, I'll make this. Oh, BTW, I shipped some testers to Daninski, so once I get the go ahead from him, I'll start mass producing and shipping...

Re: Ryan - 1993 Black RS
Mass production of rings starts tomorrow
Oh, and I did some cool bodywork that I'm proud of, so I'll post pics when I have time. I repaired my lip

I used super glue for the initial stick, and then a construction adhesive (PL300) with wire mesh pushed into it, and then a layer of waxed paper, then an paint stirring stick all clamped together by two little C clamps...
Its stronger where it broke

Re: Ryan - 1993 Black RS
I got a ticket today....
I'm pretty pissed.
Its the one road in my municipality that is a 90. I was going an apparent 109 (I vote 105) so now I owe someone who doesn't deserve my money $220. So... my car budget is now $0 for two months.
I was about 300 feet from the turn onto my road. I was JUST about to start braking. I wasn't even intentionally speeding, its just how fast everyone goes down there.
Sigh.
Whats even worse is: the only reason I drove to school today was to drop off my university application (engineering
) and the only reason I did that was because my sister didn't want to do it for me (she goes to university) so I had to miss my drafting class (which I acutally like) to drive into the city (40 mins each way) and drop off my $80 app fee.
So, if my sister had just done it for me.... she could have saved me $250....

Re: Ryan - 1993 Black RS
109MPH? ...wow I wish there were roads by me w/ a 90mph speed limit. We have 55's and the occasional 65 thats patrolled by staties (but most people drive 75-80 on the 65mph roads)
If its kph though...that sucks
Either way tickets still suck though.

Re: Ryan - 1993 Black RS
kph
Thats the sad thing, it wasn't even cool. I was going 9kph over the speed limit on every other road.... (4mph)
Grand total of 8MPH over the posted limit.
There goes an university payment for a month....

Re: Ryan - 1993 Black RS
Put on my new trailing arms today. Wasn't so hard, didn't even need pneumatics.
I found one part of the vehicle where I am not impressed with the engineering.
On the front side of the trailing arm (as apposed to spindle side) There is a bit of bracketry welded to the subframe(right word?). The arm fits in the bracket, and the nut that holds the bolt that passes through it... is poorly designed. There are two strips of metal bent around the square nut, and welded to the bracket. When bolts get old and rusty, they get harder to take off. When those little metal straps holding that bolt get old and rusty, they get weak. The bolt was spinning in its little welded on straps... I ended up breaking off the straps and using an normal bolt....
They used the system they did so that you didn't have to hold both the nut and bolt while tightening them. They couldn't have just welded the nut on? Its just as inaccessable....
In conclusion, some dippy engineer decided to create a bracket to hold on bolt, weld it down so they bolt cannot be replaced. Why not just weld the dang bolt on? save material, save labour, save my headache...
Rant over.
On a positive note, no more clunking in the rear end

I think they engineered it that way just too piss you off , lol. This happened to me with my lower shock mounts in the rear of my Festiva. The weld broke and I couldn't get a wrench in there to hold it so I had to jam a prybar in there. My Rant over...
93SE-KLDE Theres a big peice of metal inside my other peice of metal now...weird???

Re: Ryan - 1993 Black RS
OK first off. Stop blameing your sister, you sped not her. Now, I suggest you go to court, plead "guilty with an explaination". Make up something about being distracted because your worried about being accepted to University, was on your way to drop off the application, whatever and ask the Judge to let you off with a suspened sentence as the ticket would creat a financial hardship, bla bla bla. You get the idea. Say it with humility and senserity and remember, "it's not a lie if you believe it to be true".

Its just an example of how how an exact combination of events lead to one irritating outcome. Kinda like evolution.
