dumb noobie ?

Post by pumpkin king »

I know I'll probly get ripped for this, But I cant find a write up on doing a i4 to v6 swap? can some one post a link?

I just bought a 95 with 110k on it but the oil was never changed in the last 60k so the motor is shot, and since I have lots of experince with probes I wont to swap out the 4 and atx for a klde v6 and a 5spd. I know it will be a lot of work but I'm up for the challenge! Can someone help me out?

If you insist on doing this easiest way is to get the GS 1.8L V6 mounts and pretty much everything except
the engine. Actually its probably easier to sell your current RS and buy a good condition GS.

There really is no easy way to I4 -> V6 vice versa.

You prolly want to get a donor GS or go to a junkyard and get pretty much everything off of a GS mx-3. It can be done. Good luck.

Exactly, plus you can swap over the tighter steering rack and rear disk brakes...but if your just starting off and going through that trouble, just sell the RS and get a GS that will have everything you need. if anything you'll need the entire front clip from a GS for the V6 conversion

I know there a post with an entire list for the parts needed, I jsut can't find it

Im trying to do a similar thing..

But here is the run down.

I have :
a 94 Ford Laser TX3 ( aka Ford escort GT)
With a 1.8 BP DOHC i4 in it
selling the car is not an option...
I have already sourced/secured:
1 X KL-ZE motor with gearbox, shafts, hubs, loom and ecu

im up to a challenge and anything for the car that i need/ cant get i can custom make
as i have all the tooling required to make anything from laser cut custom mounts to custom strut braces...

b4 i get flamed for this i am trying to find posts on if/how this is done but i seem to keep hitting dead ends....

cheers,
marty

First, why would you swap? The BP has soo much more potential and half the work.

Vaughn (Yoda) used to have a write up on what's needed for that swap on his own webpage, but it's been dead for years.

You all keep hitting dead ends because no one ever does this. The gain is not great enough for the pain. It can be done though...but you'll pretty much have to figure it out as you go because there is no definitive resource for this information.

See if you can get a V6 donor car with a blown engine and basically change everything that is different. Then your ZE will go right in.
