Quick timing question

Post by Juans_93_MX3 »

Everything lined up.

Except i got a question about the crankshaft timing.
The Haynes book didnt really explain anything
What exactly am I suppose to line up with the arrow on crank?

Is it the notch (rectangular thing on the outer crankshaft)?

Indeed, the online workshop manuals are the way to go, or that guide the photo's from. On all my engines there's a notch and yellow paint, it's probably the easiest to line up out of the 3 timing marks!

Im going to have to look again for the yellow paint on the crankshaft. The guide this pic came from didnt mention how to lineup up the crank pulley.

So it is the rectangular thing on the that crank pulley shown on the pic?

The yellow paint is just on the notch, which is located on the base of the pulley that meets the block. The timing notch is the semi circular cutout of this pulley, that is right beside the arrow when it's right, you can almost see it a few mms under arrow in that pic. The whole cog/pulley slides off the crankshaft if you take out the rectangular key (which is not the notch/timing mark btw).
