Quick BP cam/piston question

Post by lazzer408 »

The motor I bought for my BP swap was from a '92 Escort GT automatic. What might be different in that motor compaired to a '91 Protege manual? Are the pistons lower compression? Different cams? I looked in Mitchel on-demand and couldn't find cam specs. I went back to the yard today and popped the cover off another Escort GT and the the cams have 05 and 06 cast on them. The 91 Protege has the same numbers. Is that just a rough casting number or does it reflect the grind? And last, what gain is there putting an exhaust cam on the intake if I'm planing on boosting this engine?

I have a set of '97 Miata cams. Are those any better? I've read so much $hit about cams and exhintake mods I have no idea what's what anymore but I -think- the Miata intake cam has more lift?

both engines are the same. They only difference between an auto and a 5spd. is the oil pan. The 5spd. oil pan is more bulkier than the auto.

If you are going turbo, the BP GTX or GTR cams would be the best. The exintake mod is for N/A. The gains is a 10whp & 14flbs of torque. You also have to buy adjustable cam gears.

The 97 miata cams... I don't know any info about them. Look at the casting numbers and compare them to the EGT or the protege ones. They might be different, I don't know

I measured the lobes and the Escort Gt and Miata cams are the same lift anyways. I can't measure duration or timing of them. I'll assume they are the same. 05/06 on both sets. The Protege cams I have are also the same numbers.

People talk about getting "agressive Miata cams"
