put a breather filter or not?

Post by Tropical Emerald 1993 »

I was thinking about the first option. Any positive experiences with breather?

I googled this but couldn't get any good info, I'm curious about this since I want to do it too, more for the sound than for anything. I don't understand the purpose, since the air is filtered already.

i agree on the 2 no 1 yes i personally left the pvc valve but removed the hose going from the valve cover to the intake tube mainly to help keep the TB clean i just put a vacume cap on the intake side and im am very happy with the results i nolonger have to worry about the TB cetting gunked up a standard 12 mm breather works fine
i left the pvc valve on for the fact that it aids greatly in sucking all the crank case gasses other than stewing up and festering as i like to call it good luck -johnny

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/PCV_valve" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;

If you put a breather on the crank case inlet and leave the PCV valve connected to the intake - it will create a vacuum leak situation. If your engine is old and if there's a lot of blowby gases present - then the "leaked" air picks up its own "fuel" and you wont feel much of a difference. If you dont have much blowby gases then it will definitely mess with AFR - especially at idle.

If oil is being pushed through crank case inlet tube - then the PCV system is not functioning properly (most likely blocked PCV valve).

I put a breather on choice number 1 on my SOHC-turbo...and it makes an oily mess under-hood :lol:

That will be fixed once the new motor goes in :D

You can do a filter, but a breather may be illegal. They're not allowed in Ontario at least to vent that to atmosphere, otherwise it's a nice fine.
