EGR valve

Post by blaudust7 »

Where is the location of the egr? My Chiltons manual is showing the location across from the battery in front of the brake master cylinder. Is this correct, and can I use an egr off the 2.5L V6?

I had error code no. 16, which is EGR system error. So I removed my EGR valve, checked solenoids, vacuum hoses, cleaned EGR valve in naphtha (pic in my worklog), bought a new EGR gasket and installed it back. It works perfectly now, engine is back in great condition in 1500-4000 rpm. I would not recommend blinding the EGR.

Why not? its just for emissions :/

just block it out and have it connected to get rid of the code. No negative reactions are done.

It reduces combustion temperature in preset area of rpm, improves idling, reduces NOx and exhaust smoke etc. There are many discussions and articles about EGR system on the internet.

That sounds like an EGR commercial ;)

EGR system is not used during idle-

Yes, but when the valve is stuck and still open during idle, then idling is not smooth.

I do not say "don't blind EGR". I just say, clean it and use it, I recommend it, but it is every MX3 owner's decision - keep or remove. :)

You can not use the EGR from the 2.5 since it's a totally different part number and is about $200 more then the 1.8 for some reason! I looked it up at work here.

It reduces your impact on the planet. It's the least you can do.
