Re: OEM Sideskirts
Like Taras mentioned a good (3m) two-way tape should work. I'm not familiar with the "2 black plastic strips". If these are the OEM sideskirts than a search will reveal what markings are stamped inside and that the OEM are eurethane and not fiberglass. Those strips you mentioned would probably be the runners that are attached to rocker panel with the 5 or 6 holes that it has . Factory directions specify to use rivets but I used coated screws. It'll take some time to finally get the strips aligned to the proper position. I used 2-way tape for the original alignment before using the screws. I did one side of the car with the runner and the other without any support (no runner or tape) and the eurethane unit started to sag from the lack of support over a short period of time. I had to remove that one and install the runner. A local Mazda may have the directions kicking around. FWIW, my oem sideskirts came with a tan/beige colour runners not black. Hope this helps.Whitey wrote:Hows it goin. I came across a set of OEM sideskirts last week and I dont know if I have all of the pieces to put them on. Sounds like they may not have been installed quite right. There are no points on the rocker panel to align the runners. The factory kit has a squarish cardboard template with the outline of the curvatures of the rocker panel and it's used to mark the upper level line of the runners. It just didn't work for me so I used a strong 2-way tape to hold the runner inplace (trial and error for the first time). That done, I placed the sideskirt on that runner to check for alignment and simitry. That may take a couple of tries to get it right. Once that's done than you can permanently attach the runner in whatever fashion you like - tape, rivets or screws. The previously made holes for the wheel wells should already line up with the factory holes ... hpoefully the original installer didn't do a real butcher job on them and pooch those holes. Lastly there's a folded lip on the underside of the sideskirt with about 5 to 6 holes (can't remember how many) or at least hole markings. These will attach to the folded metal of the underside which by now should be abutting up to. Again there are no holes in the pinched metal pleat and you'll have to attach via a good, plated, self tapping screw. 2 Screws in front fender well, 2 screws in rear fender well, firmly attached runner and bottom lip screws and that sideskirt is not going anywhere. A search of some of the member's rides with these attached should give you a good perspective on how they should line up. Maybe this can help;Whitey wrote:The runners is what I dont understand. There is no screw holes on the car they came off of. When he took them off he said when he unscrewed the screws from the wheelwells, the whole skirt just fell off with the runners. There were no extra screws, pluge, rivets, etc. lying around anywhere.

Re: OEM Sideskirts
well i just got mine in today, brand new. there are no holes in the front or rear of the skirts, no biggy to drill the holes. i did also get 2 long flat peices to mount with i imagine as well but after looking under the car(like its easy to do when its 5" off the ground) i found nothing to mount these to. so i guess its 2 screws in the front and 2 in the back and some 2way tape. has anyone else mounted these different, the roads are really horrible in town here, my vent visors with 2way tape let go every 2 months, ive gone threw 3 sets of struts in 4 years, ive busted 4 upper strut mounts etc...the roads are bad an im not really wanting to have these sides come off and get destroyed while im driving, even more so since ive been trying to get these for as long as i have had the car. any ideas? thanks, monte.

Re: OEM Sideskirts
I tried to use the long pieces to mount them but I guess I did it wrong and now I have holes along my doorframe... after that fiasco I took the pieces off and now it's just the front and back bolts holding them on... I think the double sided tape is a good idea too.

Re: OEM Sideskirts
well they are painted now, just a quick cheapy until i repaint the car next spring.
im not goin to use the 2 mounting pieces, just 2 bolts on the front and rear, as well as
pot riveting the bottom to the pinch weld, that should hold them. my reserve for these on ebay
were 360something. on another note my air ride set up does work, now i just have to make sure they
mount onto the car properly.
