Installed kl36 ecu. Rad fan always on??

Post by 94mx3precidia »

I installed a kl36 ecu a few moments ago and i no longer have a check engine light and my raqd fan is continuiously on. Does anyone have any ideas as to why this is?

For my rad fan im thinking it has to do with the coolant temp sensors, but the check engine light i have no idea and its kinda important.

Thanks.

I'm not sure why but when I bought my kl36 ECU the guy I was buying it from asked if I wanted that option or not (rad fan always on)... I told him to remove it...

I'm not sure how he did it but maybe it's a trend with the kl36 ecus?

You don't have a check engine light because kl31/36 ecus do not use CEL lights.

I had a Kl36 ecu and never had a problem with the fan staying on cant help you there

you make a good point there, lol never thaught of that. Now is there a way i can check my codes? Say if i stuck a wire with a led in the ten and grnd pins would i get flashes from the led bulb or is it more complicated than that?

And for the rad fan i remember reading somewhere that it has to do with the coolant temp sensor somewhere but i couldnt find it.

Actually, it's because your lacking the second coolant sensor. The K8 coolant heck has it but more likely your KL doesn't. Some people have tapped it, but the easiest is to swap over the coolant neck from yoour/a K8

I don't agree with that, I didn't install that sensor on my setup and never had that problem. tapping it or swapping coolant neck don't believe would solve the problem as that sensor wasn't there in the 1st place so you might plug it up but i don't believe it will actually do anything. I could be mistaken but both kfze and klze engines i didn't use it and never had issues with the fan

Then It must be a difference between kl36 ecus i know a few who don't use the sensor @ the filler and there fans run normal. Might be a change in years.

mnemonic maybe your kl36 was modded as well since I don't use the sensor at the filler either.

It's possible Moon, but I had a buddy in Malaysia send me one directly from a junkyard, so I'm not sure thats why i said i think there might be an actual difference between kl36 ecus... We still don't know much about the ecus

okay, so i put a 12v led inline with the ten and grnd pins and like some people said it doesnt work. the led just illuminates and doesnt flash.

Now for the coolant temp sensor it looks as though i already have 2 sensors in the coolant neck so i dont know whats up with that.

Thanks for the replies.

The led goes between FEN and B+ and the jumper goes between TEN and GND.
