How low Geared is the MX-3?

Post by h3xt0r »

So I've read the MX-3 is pretty low geared, I was curious about how low are you guys talking about? My '93 MX-3 GS 1.8L tacs out at 3.5K RPMs doing 70MPH(5ish K RPM at 95MPH) on the highway, is this normal or what?

Righto I was just curious. I've been reading posts n what have you on this site for a while now but haven't posted anything. I've got a WIP MX-3, at the moment I'm throwing in a new pressure plate n a few other gadgets in to the mix. Blew the sucker out Sunday xD. When I get it back I'll throw some pics onto the site n Show you some mod's i've done to it. I have to say though that little MX is a devil, love the handling on that car. Thx for the info IrocthaDOHC.

haha nice. I've been using this name for some time now. almost 10years... Anywho right now I am replacing the Tranny in this puppy. Keeping the gears but throwing in a racing clutch, any suggestions as far as brand and models go?

My thoughts:
ACT - grippy but quite harsh on the tranny
Clutchmasters - many swear by them, though quite a few have been let down
SPEC - many love them, meant to hold crazy torque (not that you need to on k8)
Fidanza - now making clutches, might be good for a package
exedy oem - does the job!

I went with a spec stage III for my ze, as it wasn't a rip, probetalk ppl love them, they're not complete tranny exploders, and I am very tempted to turbo :)
