Brake Upgrade

Post by Buddha »

I was just wondering if there were any brake upgrades out there for a 92 gs. I am getting a KLZE and would like to have some increased stopping power for the increased horsepower. I dont really wanna go out there and drop a bunch on a kit though. Is there any other vehicles that have compatible brake calipers and or rotors that would swap over. thanks for your input guys.

As far as I know, you have to go with bigger rims to upgrade, but the stock brakes work pretty well. You can go with stainless steel lines, and better pads, but you need to match them to what you're doing. The pads made for high heat don't work as well for street. I have a ZE, and drive fast sometimes, and am happy so far with the brakes. There's alot of good info if you search. Don't get cross drilled, or slotted rotors, though.

s/s brake lines, DOT 4 brake fluid, a bigger master cylinder off of 929 or millenia and of course good set of pads.

I read a thread on another forum...clubprotege i think about upgrading to the dual piston calipers from a Kia. This is all from memory so don't quote me on any of it, but the car was an escort I think...which has much of the same running gear as us.

Here...I found the thread on CP.com

they're doing the mod on a BG chassis (of which the MX-3 is a variant) but I can't say for sure if the parts swap to our car the same way they would to a protege. Someone should try it. I'm sure it could be made to work.

Exactly. You don't need more than that. I've just spend good money on a good set of pads and rotors and i'm extremely pleased with what I've got. Stainless brake lines are a good idea. DOT4 is an easy upgrade too. The bigger master cylinder from a 929 is overkill IMO, but if you can why not? I don't see a need for it, but that's just my opinion. However, big brake kits aren't worth the money they ask for IMO, just a show thing to fill in the extra room when going with a larger rim. The larger rotors from a big brake kit actually add more mass to the wheels, which would slow down your acceleration as well. Trust me, just spending money on a good set of pads and rotors will significantly perform better than much el cheepo Canadian Tire stuff, etc.
