Exactly, it's not really a concern IMO. The weaker retainers shouldn't be affected by boost, but affect longevity and reliability, as the engines gain milleage and, there is more potential of weaker retainers breaking, but that's not common. The issue is usually from them being over-revved, either accidentally or from abuse.

But you could also get a DE for around $250 from a junk yard and then build it up abit and still be around the power of a ZE and it will last longer cause of the stronger retainers. But its totally up to you.
$250 ??? ... try about 500-600 bucks.
build it up?... as in
Ouch where do you live!, or they must be in awesome shape or low K then.
Build up as in get bigger/forged rod's and pistons, bore or stroke it to a 2.7L, strengthen the valve train with some nice springs.
For prices, depending on you live. YOu can get ZE's as low as $800
Building up, depending on what you want. Check out ProbeTalk, there is TONS of information about working on KL's on there. Just an FYI, there's hit and miss talk about the benefits of stroking a KL. Some people ahve, but many believe too that the strengh in the motor is it's reving ability, but not to say it's not possible and that you shouldn't do it, but that more isn't better, but also depends on your goal and what you have in mind. Research, read, there's plenty of information out there.
