Tricking stock ECU

Post by se7en »

Can anyone think of a way of tricking the stock ECU into not adding extra timing?

or taking timing out?

can I hack into the knock sensor to trick the ecu into retarding the timing?

cheers

I already unplugged it....

the reason is:

I am tricking the computer to add fuel by adding resistance to the CLT sensor to make the engine think it has to warm up(add more fuel)

unfortunately, it also adds timing.

I was thinking that I could simulate the knock sensor, and trick the ecu into removing timing under boost.....

any thought on this John?

you might be looking at a piggy back. I know it's a four letter word here, but it's also your answer. At the very least, I'd just check out it. (AEM Fuel / Ignition controller)

Do not unplug your knock sensor. Engine knock = bad!

Well, i would stop messing with the CLT and do what real tuners do - mess with the O2 sensor values directly to change AFR. I think i recommended O2 clamp to somebody before - you can probably look it up.....

If you do want to manage timing manually without engine management - look into MSD modules -

Of course you will need an MSD ignition for that to work.

Megasquirt might work out to be a better option.....

sounds like it will be the easiest way lol.

MAP ECU2 piggy back. I have already been in contact with them and a company that makes patch harnesses for them. I have the wiring diagrams for the 93 ECU which I could sent to you. Not sure on the differences in the pinout from 92 to 93.(EDIT: you could not use the same diagram as I have because I am not boosted yet, but they did the diagrams for me and I'm sure they would do the same for you.) The MAP ECU2 will cost you about $900 and the patch harness is something like $130. IT controls fuel and timing and has outputs for other functions like boost control etc.

I plan on doing most of the things you're doing and when I researched the MSnS it just seemed really tricky. Thats why I started looking for a good piggyback. I think this one is the best. They tell me they have had good success with Miata's on boost and the technology on that car is very similar to ours.

I'm not sure why everyone is so down on the piggyback around here. I have one on my bike and it's awesome. I can add or remove fuel at any rpm in 2 minutes.
