Well...it's been a couple months since I last posted in my worklog so I'll sum things up for anyone who is interested.

This Black 94' GS turned out to be alot rougher than I first suspected. The seller was a young man that I tought physics to while in school and I believed that I could trust him. My trust turned out to be misplaced and several problems that I was assured were not an issue in fact were very serious issues.

The rear brakes were totally seized and absolutely unserviceable. In fact they had been that way for some time as the proportioning valve was totally rusted shut and fluid was not even traveling to the rear brakes. That all cost me about $400 and many frustrating hours to replace.

The CV axels had been recently replaced, which I was happy about until it became clear that they were replaced with the wrong ones. the Driver's side is overlength and making contact with the spider gear shaft inside the diff. This causes a bad shudder which I was told was caused by a bad tire balance. I spent alot of money trying to find that shudder and have definitely identified the axel as the problem.

The distributor is going. Not uncommon, but he told me that it was new. The cap is relatively new, the dizzy is original. I have spent a few bucks and alot of time chasing the hesitation in the engine to find out that the distrtibutor I thought was new is in fact very old.

So all in all I'm into this car for alot more than I expected to be to get it to the point I intended to be starting from. It's my own fault so I'll take my lumps and sell the black car for the best deal I can get. I have decided to purchase another MX-3, a 93' SE which I believe is in much better condition, from a member in Vancuover. All of my plans are intact. This SE will be receive the same complete resto-rebuilld I had intended for the Black 94'. As a bonus, I now have a really nice condition leather interior with heated seats.

Flying out to Van to pick up the new car Saturday and driving home 12 hours or so. Should be a hoot in the dead of winter.

I'll let you all know how it went.

OK well the new car is home now. I thought I might start a new worklog for it, but then I realized that there's nothing wrong with the new car...so it wouldn't be much of a worklog. haha.

For the time being it will remain as is. Over the coming summer it'll need brakes and a few minor things. After that, it's just a matter of time before the ZE swap. I will want to freshen up the body as well, but for now it's quite good.

There will be some general perfomance mods, but I want the car to remain stock looking.

So here's the scoop on the black 94'. I have tricked the wife into letting me keep it. Its stored at a friends shop, so it's not in her line of sight and I am able to leave it there as long as I need.

This car will become my test rig. It will be the guinea pig for ZE swaps, distributorless ignition systems and turbo setups. We are in the market this year for a house. Once I have a shop of my own...look out.

LOL man I just went through the same thing a couple months ago. We moved 600kms away from our old place. I had parts stored all over at friends, parents, my old work lol. I told her they only thing I want is a gerage/shop. After we bought a house it took me another 3 months just to get it all up here. I had parts sitting collecting dust for almost a year.

Good luck with the hunt! its the fun part!

Hey while i'm at it. what would be the best size of the 3M VHB tabe to get.. I see it comes in 1/4" to 1" on ebay. I have yet to find any place around me that will bring it in :( . I was thinking the 1/2" might do the trick. I will be molding the sides on also. I was thinking of putting some tech/self tapping screws through the bottom, and in the wheel-well. Then the tape on the body/under the door. Then blend it in with some bondo.

Do you think the 1/2" is good. or something wider?

You won't need much. That stuff is insanely sticky. It's considered structural. I would go with the cheapest. It is also available in different thicknesses from .5mm up to 3mm I think, so get the thinnest you can.
