Electrical/Shift Linkage

Post by Elric_207 »

Hello everyone! It's been awhile since I've posted in here but I have had a couple more questions come up.

First of all, I fixed the original problem which I had posted about on here (timing belt) and thank you for calming my panic as far as the interference head issue was concerned :P I replaced the timing belt and once again she purrs like a kitten :D

My first question is related to what seems to be a common problem. My shift lever has dropped which has caused my car to fail inspection... for the time being I have put a U-Bolt in place to hold the shift lever up so it doesn't ride on my exhaust and rattle unbearably. I was just wondering where I could find a fix for this, my friend "Steckino" said that he found a fix on here and I just haven't been able to find it.

Secondly is an electrical problem. I've replaced three alternators so far (6 months). I'm surprised the guys down at "Advance Auto" don't keep an extra on a shelf out back for me lol Thank god for lifetime warranty on the alt. and belt! My problem comes into play whenever I add any kind of additional electrical load to the system, IE: Fog lights, 300Watt power inverter... within two weeks of installing any components like this I get the squeeling from the belt and ultimately end up only getting 7v out of the alt. I was reading another post and it sounds like the 90amp alt. for the GS would be a decent solution...

Thirdly just as a quick question, has anybody tried punching the cat. on their mx-3? due to the local... *COUGH* lovely law enforcement... I may have to remove my exhaust and re-weld the OEM muffler back on and I was hoping punching the cat. would give me some tone back in addition to the intake I have installed... As mush as I would love to keep my can on... my last ticket was a second offense for "excessive sound" cost me $140US as well as being a second offense which will remain on my license for nine years... one more and I'll get hauled of to the county lock-up and lose my license for two years :( Like I said I just love the local PD lol

I have a 95 RS 1.6 DOHC

Do a search for "anti drop bracket". There's a guy who makes them, and it seems everybody on here who's bought them has been very pleased.

If you regularly put a decent draw on the 300 W inverter, the GS alt swap may not be a terrible idea. Otherwise you'd be adding unnecessary weight to the car, and drag to the engine.

As far as gutting the cat, it's a bad idea. It creates an expansion chamber, which slows the exhaust velocity.

Alright, I'll probably be stopping by the parts store soon to check on that alternator. My plans are two 12" Kicker compVR subs with a 500Watt kicker amp, as well as possibly two (possibly three) tactile transducers, one under each front seat, and possibly a third mounted to the back of the rear seat.

Thanks for the advice for the Cat! I guess I should have just thought about it logically and thought about the related aerodynamics and effects on the airflow of having a cavity of empty space larger than the actual exhaust pipe :P
