oh oh.....funny knocking sound..

okay, after some hard driving, at idle, I hear a NON-rythmic tappy/knocking type of sound.... doesn't sound like any Rod knock that I have every heard, but what do you all think?

the reason I think that it isn't a rod knock, is because it isn't steady.

kinda like

tap tap.....tap........tap........tap tap tap........tap.........tap

and only at low idle(750rpms)

what the heck could that be?

Could be timing belt idler/tension pulley making that kinda sound. Does it sound like it's coming from the timing cover area?

Just keep upping the boost on that k8 untill it goes away permanetly and there is no noise at all.

If its a tapping i don't think it's a tensionner. Check your oil.

Make sure nothing is tapping on your hood (happened to me...)
Or anything is loose.

Also, can you hear it if you stick your ear in your exhaust pipe?

wow pimp.... already.... you know the drill.... take off the manifold.... look at your valves.... what other symtoms... looping at idle, not starting up like it use to, not feeling as good as it use to, etc...

I've never heard of that trick. Is that to see if its detonation? I don't think it would normally happen at idle.

That intermittent tapping sounds like it might be a tensioner. My HLAs constantly tick.

If it is getting louder everytime that you are driving the car and it dissapears at higher RPM then it probably is the timing belt tensioner... Post a vid of what is happening.

BTW - How's your wastegate holding up???

nah, I have to let off at 4000rpms, cuz boost get over 5-7psi then.

kinda annoying, my wastegate is on backorder.
