1996 mx-3

Post by jason5151 »

im just wondering about my newer k8 engine on my car ,because my 92 mx's engine was not the same as the 96 has dohc cast on the valve cover and the 92 didn't,as well as some aluminum piping that looks like over sized brake lines on the side of front valve cover..
does anyone has any insight as what is the difference is between the years 92 and 96 k8 engines.
is the 92 a single over head cam?
if so is there any power difference in hp?
i know one difference the fact that i have to go to mazda to retrieve codes from ecu,my mechanics $10000 code reader can't read this ecu but could read the 92ecu. cuz 100.00 just to tell me what the cel code means is just highway robbery!
any help on the differences and possible reason why mazda has a monopoly on the repairing of 96's but not 92's
would be appreciated ty in advance.

Nope there the same engines. Some of the later K series did not have the front valve cover breather and a slightly different PCV system. Its something to do with OBDII. and the v6 dohc logo on the front cover is just because its a 96, they started using thsoe covers in later years.
