Do you mean autocross or roadracing & pdx?
All of the MOCA guys autocross and PDX-- so they will be a good resource.
Most of us use Ground Control Coilovers, Mazdaspeed Adjustable struts or Ford Racing ZX-2 S/R struts, and either a stock or Whiteline rear sway bar and front & rear upper strut bars.
I would spend the money on lightweight 15" wheels and some 205/50/15 Falken Azenis or Bridgestone RE-01R tires.
The coilovers are pretty inexpensive and the ZX2 S/R struts are dirt cheap to.
Brakes-wise, you cant beat Hawk HPS or HP+ pads. The HP+ pads are very dusty and noisy, but I love them.

This is probably the best thing you can do for your car. Lightweight wheels with good shoes help acceleration, braking, and handling.atlantamx3 wrote:I would spend the money on lightweight 15" wheels and some 205/50/15 Falken Azenis or Bridgestone RE-01R tires.
The suspension should be based on your budget. Adjustables are better, since tracks can vary (the track out here is bumpy and full of gravel, so it favors softer suspensions since they allow the car to stay planted). The zx2's are set to a nice level and are really really cheap.
Brakes are dependent on track size and whether or not this is a daily car. Real race pads need to get up to temp before they work well, they are great for long tracks, but I wouldn't use them on a daily driven car or a short track (which probably applies here since scca tracks generally arn't very long and you sit in line between laps). Most sites will rate the different qualities of brakes to help you decide. Try Atlanta's suggestion and go from there.
And don't forget to take pictures.

Re: best setup for scca
I have my suspension done, even all new upgraded bushings, and it's awesome! I'm also wondering what difference the Whiteline sway bar would make. I'm not disbelieving, just wondering.

Re: best setup for scca
It'll make some difference, but don't expect it to be night and day. It's only 2mm thicker, and not that much stiffer than stock. Probably worth it if you're looking to squeeze every last bit of performance out of an already good suspension.

Re: best setup for scca
It's much stiffier then the stock, hollow bar. The Whiteline bars are solid bars. For the 4cyl guys (19mm), it is a greater improvement.Whisper wrote:It'll make some difference, but don't expect it to be night and day. It's only 2mm thicker, and not that much stiffer than stock. Re: best setup for scca
Yeah, I hear some MX3s came with the hollow bar. My GS had a solid 20 mm. It weighs almost as much as the Whiteline. Maybe that's why I didn't notice much difference.
