what to do with hole in muffler under center console?

Post by fuxxy »

My OEM "pre-muffler" (the one under the center console) has a big hole in it.

Should I get the muffler shop to remove it and straight pipe it or should it be replaced with something?

Stock RS, Flowmaster 2-chamber at the tip. (that may be going too)

i dunno if this is legal but it would be a temperary solution: cut it off then take some flex pipe and some clamps. or be like my brother and make an entire exhaust outta flex pipe.

Replace the damaged resonator with an aftermarket resonator. It will sound like pooh if you don't, very raspy.

Or do what I did, and don't take that advice. Get a straight pipe welded in, and regret it for ever after.

Are aftermarket resonator's common? Should my local muffler shop have one in stock?

I'm sure they'll have a universal one, or be able to bring in one made for your car. Can't hurt to give them a call.

Ditto what umcamara said. I personally like having the resonator in-line. You can use a Cherry-Bomb(r) type muffler for a resonator.
