I have just purchased a set of cheap Evotion springs and I'm thinking about going with the zx2 strut setup..
Does anyone have a HOW-TO installation link because the one in the FAQ section is not working...
Some people claimed that Evotion springs have a drop of 2" after settling and the ZX2 gives an extra .5" drop? So that means I will have a 2.5" drop? If used with Evotion springs?
I am also looking at the Tokico Blue struts, any views?
KYB GR2 is out of the question, I've read here that they are not good for any drop lower than 1.5"..
Ok, well I am not to sure about the ZX-2 S/R strut being .5" lower, but it may be true.. I am running ground controls and I am on the bottom of teh threads almost, so if it was .5 lower then I should be sitting lower. As for the install, the only thing you need to do is grind out the center of the upper perch (cup where the spring seats up top) as the thrust bearing is round on the zx2 and the mx's is a oval shape where it goes into the perch on top.
In regards to the HP struts, I had a set on my last car and I didnt like them, they bottomed out and didnt ride nice, the ZX2 IMO is a better strut and is cheap too. If you need pics of the perch mods PM me with your email address and I can send you the pics. I have them at home.
I was looking at getting new strut mounts for my ZX2 install until I found out that they are $63 a side for fronts and $52 a side for rears and that doesn't include the dust boots and bump stops. Instead, I went to the local self serve junk yard and found a 98' Escort. I got the strut mounts, bearings, dust boots, bumpstops and spring seat rubbers for all 4 wheels for $7 (this is partially becasuse the girl at the register thinks i'm cute and didn't charge me at all for the rears).
No modification necessary as they are the intended perches for these struts. They're in really nice shape as it was a 98' (nice for us that fords die young). Wash em up and a quick spray of black rustoleum, ArmourAll the rubber bits and it's like using new parts.
I will make a nice new "How To" with picutres as I do my install. I'm awaiting the arrival of the struts and springs from Texas. I live in central Alberta and even with shipping, the struts and springs were more than $100 cheaper from oemfordparts.com than any local supplier.

The parts I bought from oemfordparts.com were just the zx2 struts and eibach springs. The struts were over $100 less there than locally and I couldn't find anyone local that could still access the springs. The service was fantastic and I couldn't be happier so far. I never had any plans to buy the small parts anywhere but a junkyard because I predicted (accurately) that there would be a relatively new ford escort at my local yard...because they're built like crap.
Cool that you found a cheap supplier though. I have cleaned up all my front end small parts and they're like new. I will be working on the rear stuff tomorrow so when the parts from Texas arrive i'll be ready to assemble the struts and have 'em installed in a couple hours.
Having done that, I'll be looking into polyurethane bushings all around.
