MTX Rebuild On Hold - Can't Find Sleeves

Post by Nd4SpdSe »

I got everything to have my mechanic start rebuilding my custom tranny, well, almost everything. We're missing some metal sleeves. The ones in the tranny were left in since they'll more likely break when removed, so they were sandblasted with the rest of the tranny casing, thus now useless. We never thought anything of it and I went to get replacements, but no one has them, not Mazda (not even shown in their system or on any exploded layours), not Mr Transmission nor my cousin who used to rebuild trannies.

I'm not up onthe terminoligy on the parts, but the best I can describe them is that they're sleeves for the holes in the casings for the levers for the forks. Fortunately we've got pics.

I'm hoping someone can help me out and know where to get these parts. I can probably get them fabricated, but that's quite the extreme for something so simple, so it would seem anyway...

I'd say thsoe are more liek dowels that hold the 5th gear assembly. I've seen them a few times on trannies i've had apart.

Well, it's not like you canfind trannies in pieces with those parts easilly acceesable, would be a pain to take another one completely apart just for those pieces, and my mechanic suspects that they'll break when we take them out. As well, it'll basically be a new tranny, would be nice to complete the ensemble.

You can buy a new casing with the sleeves in them... :( The casings are expensive. I haven't been able to locate new sleeves for my Kia trans either. Does the shift fork rod slide smoothly in the bore?

Ya, i figured that casings are expensive, but considering i just got it back from being blasted and powdercoated, I really really really want to avoid that route, i'll just get them fabricated if possible. They'll add alot of play if they're not there..

These are what I'm looking for:

So Yoda, you mean you recognise those parts and know where I can get them?

Otherwise, not sure what to tell you.

Like I said they are standard of the shelf industrial sleeve bushing. It appears to be a Garlock (the name of the manufacture) sleeve bushing. Also Igus (another manufacture) makes poly-bushing the exceed the performance of oilite bronze and some steel sleeve bearings that will probably also work. I probably had a couple dozen in inventory a couple years ago that probably would have been the right size. There were brought in for a R&D project and when manufacturing operations closed down here parts like this were donated to a local trade school. Where to buy them as to a specific store I would have a clue. Most likey an industrial bearing shop could order them but you many have to order a large qty. There are probably several other manufactures of similar products as well.

hmm, interesting question. My dad did manage to fabricate them out of brass at work. His question is do those shift rods move? To they slide in and out, do they twist, or both?
