intercooler=loss of power?

Post by PWRD_BY_HKS »

Okay guys. Were getting there I promise.

So I'm just about ready to bolt everything up. All I need is my intercooler.

Looking back on some PM's lots of you have said I really don't need an intercooler because I will stay at 4 lbs and not go up. So my question is

If I do inter cool will I loose power. What I mean is will I have enough with 4 lbs to push enough air through an intercooler.

As usuall all help is great. Thanks.

You should at least run like a Mx6 stock intercooler, I think u should have an intercooler for boost, but if its way to big, u will lose power, but a mx6 one should be just right!

I got the stocm mx6 intercooler.. but will it start being a bad thing after 4 psi? Im plannng 8, first 4.

dont mean to jack the thread tho but since we are on the subject.

I heard at 4 psi an intercooler would not be necessary, is this correct?

I dont know all the mumbo jumbo words for it but here it goes.

when air is compressed it builds heat( plus turbo building heat). The intercooler cools the air so as to help with evaporating the fuel for better combustion. So as 4psi would not build enough heat

That's exactly what I was told but this is the golden question.

Will I gain or loose power with an intercooler?

You should gain power with an intercooler. For every degree drop in air temp, you should gain a percentage of power. I can't remember now, but it was a small %, say 2-5.

some ppl say u would lose power cuz with a bigger intercooler ur pressure drop will be greater thus having less boost.. just trn the boost up some and u should be good lol having an intercooler even with 4psi is good idea u want a nice cool dense air charge for reliability and for bigger reason more powa!
