Will mx6 hubs/brakes swap over to a mx3?

Post by ho bag »

Might be getting a mx6 for parts soon and i was wondering if its posible to use the mx6 brakes on an mx3?

If need be swap the whole hub/spindle assembly and get 5 bolt hubs in the process...

If not oh well, just figured it might be a cheap/easy upgrade for free since ill have the parts.

I think it has been tried, but the person/s couldn't get them to work. That doesn't mean that you shouldn't give it a shot though.
Good luck.

Ya your right, i should try it regardless. I mean ill have it all apart anyway so why not try.

We already know the ball joint will work. Providing the mounting point for the strut is the same (and if not maybe use mx6 struts as well) then its on the tie rod (again i will have one).

Wose part is you would have no idea if caster would be affected by doing this and it may be affected.

DO NOT PUT YOUR MX6 CALIPERS ON YOUR MX3.mx6 had one the shittiest brake calipers at the back, they sieze in a day with no driving. everyone who's doing rear brakes puts Protege/Protege5 calipers on the back, they are much better

the front mounting point for the mx6 struts is wider so on the front if you do it you'll have to use mx-6 struts, which isn't a bad idea either

then i guess the guy who made the write up on how to put ksport mx6 coil overs on an mx-3 lied caues he had to use small spacers to put them on his mx-3 knuckles... i'm pretty sure he had to do it on fronts and rears actually

a friend of mine has ksport mx6 coilovers on his escort lx, which as you know has interchangeable struts with the MX3.

he needed to use some spacers in the front, as already mentioned. in the rear he needed to weld some aluminum to the strut mounting bracket and re-drill the bottom holes. this is because the bolt spacing on the escort/mx3 is 10mm furthur apart than on the MX6. iirc the width of the spindle is the same in the rear however. the front camber plates fit, and the rear mounts fit by removing one stud/corner of the mount and enlarging the holes in the body very slightly.

as for the topic at hand... mx6 hubs on an mx3, i would be very interested to see how this turns out!! ive been considering trying this on my escort GTR, but i havent yet found a suitable donor mx6/probe in the junkyard.

ok if you can get MX-6 Brakes to fit please let me know
cause you can use 3000gt brakes on a MX-6 from what ive heard
I still cant find anywhere in the shop manual where it says there should be a 1in hole in the side of the block. (Blown K8) #6 rod thrown through block.

Can I get an explanation of why you want to use MX6 brakes on your car?

cause the MX-6 can use the 3000gt calibers and rotors which are bigger and are alot better
