TRANNY PROBLEM HELP ME !!!

Post by McMayh3m »

Hey whats up guys i got a real big problem. I purchased a 1993 Mazda Mx3 V6 stock everything. It has a really really really good interior and 130,000 miles. Plus; it was only 1200.

So anyways, i've had the car for about 3 weeks and it started messing up. Currently i can't go in reverse and when i accelerate to maybe around 30-45 MPH my RPMS will shoot all the way up to 4,00-5,000. Can someone maybe explain what's wrong and if it can be fixed without purchasing a whole new tranny?

The automatic trannies in our cars are fairly notorious for going wrong unfortunately. I imagine there will be a few people here suggesting that you do the MTX conversion.

The first thing you should do however is check your transmission fluid level. Automatics can act pretty strangely if that gets low or overly dirty.

When the rpms shoot up, does it feel like the transmission is slipping or just down shifting? Low fluid can cause slippage, and it may not be going into reverse for the same reason.

Well when the RPMS shoot up it just feels more like the gears are getting stuck. I was thinking it has something to do with the spider gears but i dont know. I checked the fluid and it was a little dirty and low. So i changed it but it's still doing the same thing. When i put it into reverse my car will/can drive forward just like driving in "DRIVE"

Sounds like the valve body is bad to me, but I'm no expert on auto trannies. I would take it to a shop. Maybe you got a 1200 car for a reason.

Yeah i should take it to the auto shop. But i just want to get a first hand account from other MX3 owners. Anyone else have any clues/suggestions as to what is wrong?

The thing is; if i do a tranny swap i would want it to be auto matic. And if i can have the total cost (with labor) be less then 1,000 that would be great. Anyone else have any ideas?
