Re: rattle sound at 3500 revs?
Might not be the valvetrain. Worn alternator bearings can also produce a nasty rattle at mid rpms. Also, a loose heat shield around the exhaust manifolds or forward part of the exhaust system can rattle at a certain rpm range and sound as if the noise is from the engine. Get a friend to rev the engine to replicate the sound while you inspect from the engine bay to isolate it further. After that, if you still think it's the valvetrain, use a mech's stethescope (~15-20 USD) available at most any autoparts place. That will help pinpoint the engine area where the noise is coming from. Post back with your findings and any Q's.robbo604 wrote:Hi guys , think i need oil change as sounding a bit tappety. Its a standard v6.Im more worrind as ive got a knocking at 3500 revs. Its not a deep knocking. more like a rattle. Oh, and change the oil as a matter of course if it's due for one. Never hurts... g/l
